Nicola Bremner Davis, a former resident of Monterey, died on Friday at
her Ventura home after a three-year battle with cancer. She was 25.
Born Jan. 11, 1967, in La Jolla, she attended Lighthouse Elementary
School in Pacific Grove and was graduated from Pacific Grove High
School in 1985. She left the Peninsula two years ago to obtain cancer
treatment in Los Angeles. She was married last April in Monterey to
Jack Davis of Ventura. In addition to her husband, she is survived by
her mother, Marion Bremner of Monterey; her father and stepmother, Paul
and Kathleen Bremner of San Diego; and her grandfather, A.H. McDonald
of San Diego. She was preceded in death two years ago by her sister,
Lindsay of Monterey. A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at
10:30 a.m. at San Buenaventura Mission in Ventura. Arrangements are
under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura. The family
suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to the American Cancer
Society.

Ex-P.B. resident dies of injuries
John Mitchell Clute, 23, of Hayward, a former Pebble Beach resident,
died Saturday from injuries received in an automobile accident in
Hayward on Oct. 18. Mr. Clute was born Jan 10, 1967, in Washington,
D.C. At the time of the accident, he was a student at Heald Business
College in Hayward. He attended All Saints' Episcopal Day School in
Carmel Valley and graduated from Pacific Grove High School. He also was
a graduate of Denver Automotive and Diesel College in Denver, Colo.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Eleanor and James Miller
of Pebble Beach; a sister, Cameron Clute of Pebble Beach; and his
maternal grandmother, Mrs. John Mitchell Geer of Pebble Beach. He is
also survived by three stepbrothers, Wayne Miller of Santa Margarita,
Brad Miller of Pacific Grove and Dale Miller of Menlo Park; and a
stepsister, Patricia Miller of San Francisco. No services are planned.
Cremation will be at the Little Chapel by-the-Sea. The Paul Mortuary is
in charge of arrangements. The family suggests that any memorial
contributions be sent to the donor's favorite charity.

Armi Lara Cooper, 25, a former Pacific Grove resident, died Aug. 27 at
the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco. Born
Sept. 30, 1967, in New York, she came to Pacific Grove with her family
at the age of 2. She graduated from Pacific Grove High School in 1984
[1985, ed.]. At the time of her death, she was a student of history at
the University of California at Davis, and serving an internship at the
state Railroad Museum in Sacramento. She is survived by her father,
Harold of Seaside; her mother, Dena Cooper Weber of Pacific Grove, and
a sister, Jessica Megen Cooper of Seaside. A memorial service will be
held Sunday at 6 p.m. at the Monterey Peninsula Unitarian Church. The
family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to the American
Cancer Society.

Michael Goedeck, a former sous-chef at the Sandbar & Grill in Monterey,
died Sunday at his Lake Tahoe home. He was 32. Born Aug. 15, 1967, in
Beech Grove, Ind., he grew up in Pacific Grove, before moving to Santa
Barbara 10 years ago and changing his residency recently to Lake Tahoe,
Nev. He loved the ocean and was a passionate surfer and diver. His
hobbies included softball and snowboarding. He also loved children and
the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is survived by his son, Tyler Stephen Dean
of South Carolina; his parents, Priscilla Label of Salinas and Peter
Goedeck of Topanga Canyon; a brother, Scott Goedeck of Las Vegas, Nev.;
four sisters, Sue Burl of Hancock, Mich., Stephanie Bedow of Lake
Arrowhead, Shawn Job of Mesa, Ariz., and Sara Welch of Salinas; and
eleven nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m.
Thursday at Lovers Point Park in Pacific Grove, followed by a
celebration of life at Tarpy's Roadhouse in Monterey. The family
suggests that memorial contributions be sent to a trust fund set up for
Tyler Stephen Dean, acct. #1389790, at Community Bank of Central
California, 301 Main St., Salinas 93901. The Neptune Society is
responsible for the funeral arrangements.

James Samuel Gruwell Jr., 34, a sheet metal worker, died Wednesday from
injuries suffered in a work-related accident. He was born Dec. 16,
1967, in Monterey and was a lifelong resident of the Monterey
Peninsula. Mr. Gruwell attended Pacific Grove High School and was a
graduate of the Music Institute of Technology in Hollywood. He worked
with his father in the family business. Gruwell's A&R Heating and
Sheetmetal for 20 years. Mr. Gruwell was an avid guitar player and
enjoyed rock 'n' roll music, scuba diving, sky diving, cooking,
gardening, and collecting toys and comic books. He is survived by his
parents, James and Sherry Gruwell of Seaside; three sisters, Susan
Vordermark of Ankara, Turkey, Judy Solarez of Monterey and Laura
Urquidi of Seaside; his paternal grandmother and six nieces and
nephews. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Paul Mortuary.
The family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to the
donor's favorite charity.

ESCONDIDO - Darlynn Marie DePew, 37, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004. Born
June 5, 1967, at Richardsgebaur Air Force Base in Missouri, she was a
resident of Escondido for 15 years. She was a homemaker. She loved the
outdoors, boating and the water. Ms. DePew is survived by her
companion, Raymond Puerta of Escondido; mother Maralee Moore of Pacific
Grove; father Doug Moore and stepmother Carla Moore of Huntersville,
N.C.; sons Daniel Douglas DePew and A.J. DePew, both of Escondido;
grandparents Reba Robinson of Owensboro, Ky., and Bob Therond of
Honolulu; stepsister and stepbrother-in-law Nicole and Jeff Lagedrost
of Fairfield, Ohio. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. today,
Oct. 8, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, 225 S. Broadway, Escondido. The
family suggests donations to the Darlynn DePew Trust Fund, Wells Fargo
Bank, 145 N. Escondido Blvd., Escondido, CA 92025. Alhiser-Comer
Mortuary is handling arrangements.

1985 Ronald Robert "Ron" Rowe (34)

Ronald "Ron" Robert Rowe, 34, a general manager, died of lymphoma
Thursday in Chicago. He was born Feb. 18, 1967, in Chicago and lived in
Pacific Grove for about five years. Mr. Rowe graduated from Pacific
Grove High School in 1985. He worked as an assistant waiter with the
Sardine Factory on Cannery Row for several years, and later became
general manager of Nick's Fishmarket Restaurants in Chicago. He was a
devoted husband and father, and enjoyed skiing, riding his motorcycle,
and playing golf. He also enjoyed watching his sons excel in sports. He
is survived by his wife, Yvette; two sons, Ronnie and Ryan Rowe, both
of Tinley Park, Ill.; a sister, Kelly Rowe Lucas of Chicago; father and
stepmother, Ron and Marianne Rowe of Pacific Grove; and one nephew.
Memorial services will be held Sunday in Tinley Park with funeral to
follow Monday. Brady and Gill Funeral Home, Tinley Park, Ill., is in
charge of arrangements. The family suggests that any memorial
contributions be sent to the Ronald R. Rowe Hospital Fund, 16828 S.
84th Ave., Tinley Park, Ill. 60577.
