Margret Elsie Berwick Van Dyke passed away on 1 August 2013 in Newport News, Virginia at the age of 73. Born March 18, 1940, in the Carmel Hospital, she was the daughter of Glen David Berwick Senior and Eldana (Dorothy) Shelton nee Trejo nee Berwick of Pacific Grove. She attended Robert Down Grammar School and graduated from Pacific Grove High School with the class of 1958 (???). During her summers she was a life guard at the Pacific Grove Municipal Pool, and was active during the school year in High School activities. Margaret met and married Burt Van Dyke, a sonar technician stationed at the Naval Sonar Monitoring Facility at Point Sur. Their son William (Billy) Van Dyke was born at the Pacific Grove hospital on Monterey Avenue.  After leaving the Navy, the family relocated to Newport News, Virginia, where Burt was employed in the Newport News Shipyard as a draftsman and layout engineer.  Margaret was pre deceased by her parents, brother Ernest Santos Trejo nee Berwick (Class of 1942) and husband Burt Van Dyke. She is survived by her brother Paul Berwick Trejo Class of 1944, Hazel Berwick, Class of 1960 (??), Glen David Berwick, Jr. Class of 1962 (??),and Dorothy Berwick, class of 1964 (??).

Margaret Elsie Berwick Van Dyke, 73, died in Newport News, VA, on Aug. 1, 2013. A Carmel native, she was born March 15, 1940, to Eldana “Dorothy” Shelton Trejo and Glen David Berwick Sr. ’26. Margaret attended Robert H. Down and graduated from PGHS in 1957. During the summers, she worked as a lifeguard at the pool at Lovers Point. She met and married Burt Van Dyke, and after leaving the US Navy, the family moved to Newport News, where Burt was a draftsman and layout engineer at Newport News Shipyard. Survivors include a son, Billy, and siblings, Paul Berwick Trejo ’44, Hazel Berwick Harvey ’61, Glen Berwick Jr. ’62, and Dorothy Berwick Smith ’65. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Ernest Santos Trejo Berwick ’42.
