Liz) Thayer Draper passed away in her home on June 22, 2008, after
nine years of declining health due to dementia and strokes. She was
born July 2, 1919, in Salem, Ore., one of three children born to
Darwin Greene Thayer and Elizabeth Thurman Lewis Thayer. Liz spent her
early years in Corvallis, Ore., Mill Valley and Pacific Grove, where
she met and married her husband, John Edwin Draper. They raised five
children in Elk Grove, Gridley and Davis, where they settled in 1952.
They moved to Santa Rosa in 1989, several years after the nest was
emptied. Besides being an excellent mother and homemaker, Liz worked
as a lab technician and a medical assistant. Her hobbies were
backpacking, bicycling, gardening, silkscreen and other arts,
woodworking/refinishing and sewing, especially quilting. She was very
active in peace and social justice issues throughout her life,
including blockading a train carrying armaments bound for Vietnam. Liz
was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband and
granddaughter Patty. She will be missed by her children Jim, Richard,
Phyllis, Caroline and Paul, their partners, eight grandchildren, five
great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, cousins and family
friends. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July
19, at a friend's house, 684 Benicia Drive, Santa Rosa. Another
memorial gathering will be held in Davis at a future date. For more
