A memorial service is Monday for Donald A. Bussey, who died Thursday at Dominican Hospital. He was 76. Mr. Bussey, a native of Pacific Grove, graduated from Polytechnic College in Oakland with a degree in chemical engineering. A 47-year resident of Watsonville, he worked for 44 years for Kaiser Refractories, before his retirement, and received numerous local, state and federal awards for his civic involvement. He was a past president of the Watsonville and Salinas chambers of commerce; founded the Coalition of labor, Agriculture and Business; and served on the board of directors of the YMCA Elkhorn Slough Foundation. He also was on the board of directors of the Pajaro Valley Water management Agency, served on the planning commissions of the city of Watsonville and Santa Cruz County, and in 1973 was on the Santa Cruz County Grand Jury. Other organizations with which Mr. Bussey was affiliated included the Rotary Club International, the Elks Club of Watsonville, the Red Cross, the United Way, Goodwill, Mid-Coast Comprehensive health Agency, the Salvation Army, the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments, the Mining Board, and the Pajaro Valley Unified School District’s Personnel Commission. Mr. Bussey is survived by his wife, Edna Bussey of Watsonville; two sons, Don Bussey of Watsonville and Doug Bussey of Vancouver, Wash.; a daughter, Kathy Pierce of Aromas; three grandchildren, and numerous nieces and cousins. A memorial service is Monday at 3 p.m. at 1700 Elkhorn Rd., Watsonville. Davis Memorial Chapel of Watsonville is in charge of arrangements. Contributions to the Elkhorn Slough Foundation, Moss Landing, are preferred.
