Harry Milton Andrews, 65, died Thursday at his home. He was born July
1, 1936, in Monterey and graduated from Pacific Grove High School. He
lived on the Monterey Peninsula for most of his life until moving to
Charlotte, N.C. two years ago. Mr. Andrews was a former member of
Monterey Moose Lodge 876, and was active with the VFW. He was a former
Little League coach. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two
daughters, Juli Standley of Matthews, N.C., and Keli Andrews of
Charlotte; mother, Maymie Shaw Andrews of Seiad Valley; two brothers,
Robert Andrews of Sheridan, Ark., and Rick Andrews of Seiad Valley; and
four grandchildren. Private services will be held. The family suggests

Dr. Anne C. Valtr, a clinical psychologist, died Sunday of
complications from pneumonia aat Community Hospital of the Monterey
Peninsula. She was 60. Born Aug. 7, 1938, in Baltimore, she moved to
the Monterey Peninsula in 1948 and graduated in 1956 from Pacific Grove
High School and from Monterey Peninsula College in 1958. Dr. Valtr
earned a master's degree in 1960 from San Francisco State University
and later earned a doctorate from the Pacific School of Psychology. She
began her career as a school psychologist in Richmond, and later worked
for 15 years for Pathmakers, opening offices from Sacramento to
Bakersfield. Mrs. Valtr is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jan; a
son, Jan Valtr Jr. of El Sobrante; a daughter, Julianna Valtr of
Salinas; a brother, Paul Chalmers of Atlanta; and a grandson. Memorial
services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Paul Mortuary in
Pacific Grove. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be

Anne Chalmers Valtr, 60 ('56, of Pebble Beach, CA; d April 1999),
died from complications of pneumonia at Community Hospital April 24,
1999. A native of Baltimore, she came to the Peninsula in 1948 and
attended local schools. She graduated from Monterey Peninsula College
in 1958, earned a master's degree from San Francisco State and a
doctorate from the Pacific School of Psychology. She was a career

In Loving Memory of Edward Thomas Esteban September 20, 1936- June 27,
2004 Eddie, 67, passed away peacefully at CHOMP after a lengthy
illness. He was a graduate of Pacific Grove High School, class of 1956.
>From 1957- 1959, he attended MPC where he was all League Football and
Baseball, and was later inducted into the MPC Lobo Hall of Fame, He
also attended the University of New Mexico on a football scholarship.
During his service in the Army, he made 211 Team Football. Eddie had
retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 32 years of service,
receiving Superior Achievement Award, Carrier & Manager He was a Youth
Baseball Coach in both Monterey and Pacific Grove, and Pop Warner
Football Coach in Monterey. His greatest love was his family, friends
and watching his granddaughters participating in their sports
activities. He was an avid 49er's fan. Eddie is survived by his wife &
companion, Natalie; daughter, Ginny Day and her husband of Salinas;
granddaughters, Tiffany and Victoria Day; sisters: Rosy Woodards &
husband, Edwin of Placerville, Penny Wheaton & husband, Eric of
Salinas, Marilyn Thompson & husband Bob of Big Bear; Brothers: John
Campbell & wife, Donna of Sacramento, Bobble Campbell & wife Julie of
Winters, Scott Campbell & wife Debbie of Oxnard; brothers-in-law, Bob
Lytle & wife Mary of Anaheim and Dempsy Billy & wife, Judi of Colfax
and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Eddies life will be
held on Saturday, July 17 from 12 to 4P.M. at the Sally Griffin Senior
Center in Pacific Grove. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to
the American Diabetes Association or the Kidney Foundation.

Edward Thomas Esteban, 67, born Sep 20, 1936 and passed away Jun 27,
2004 at CHOMP after a lengthy illness. He attended MPC, and was an

Margaret Rose Brinkman, 63, a homemaker, died Thursday at Community
Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. She was born Jan. 16, 1937, in
Monterey and was a lifelong resident of the city. Mrs. Brinkman
attended Pacific Grove High School. She enjoyed cooking and barbecuing
at Washington and Dennis the Menace parks. In her younger years, she
enjoyed bowling and roller skating. Her hobbies included listening to
country music, walking and dancing. She was a member of St. Angela's
Parish in Pacific Grove. Mrs. Brinkman is survived by four sons, Robert
Malone of Pacific Grove, Dennis and Steven Malone, both of New Orleans
and Wayne Brinkman of Monterey; a daughter, Jacklyn Brinkman of
Bremerton, Wash.; her mother, Floy Feliciano of Seaside; two sisters,
Geraldine Feliciano and Emily Ramirez, both of Seaside; 12
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services have been held.
Her ashes will be scattered at sea. The family suggests that any
memorial contributions be sent to the American Diabetes Association,

Carole Humiston Howitz of Hawthorne, Nev., a former Pacific Grove
resident, died June 3 at Mount Grant hospital in Hawthorne after a
brief illness. She was 47. Born Feb. 24, 1939, in Fort Warren, Wyo.,
Mrs. Howitz lived in Pacific Grove from 1941 to 1963 and attended
Robert Down School and the middle school in Pacific Grove. She
graduated from Pacific Grove High School in 1956. She was employed as a
medical assistant in Pacific Grove. She is survived by her husband,
Ivan; two sons, Steven and Michael of Tucson, Ariz.; sister, Cherie
Evans of Carmel; parents, Eldred Humiston and Marj. Humiston of Central
Point, Ore.; and two nephews in Carmel. Eldred Humiston is a retired
Pacific Grove police chief. Memorial services have been held at Saint
Phillips in the Desert Episcopal Church in Hawthorne. Burial will be in
Fort Huachuca, Ariz. The family suggests memorial contributions to the
American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.

Floydean K. Dommer of Fernley Nevada, died Nov 5 2005 she was 67. Mrs.
Dommer was born on Aug 29, 1938 in Twin Falls Idaho. She grew up in
Pacific Grove and graduated from Pacific Grove High School in 1956. She
married her husband of 49 years Ralph Dommer that same year. She
remained a Monterey Peninsula resident until 2002 when she & her
husband retired to Fernley, Nevada. Floydean was a life time member of
the Elkhorn yacht club in Moss Landing & a member of the Pacific Grove
Alumni. She is survived by her husband Ralph. sons; Ronald of Fernley
NV; Eugene & wife Pam of Hood River Ore; Dennis of Big Sur CA; daughter
Katherine of Santa Nella Ca; six grandchildren, Clara, Joshua, Allen,
Crystal, Gene, & Samantha. She will be missed by a large and loving
family & her friends at the Elkhorn Yacht club. Donations may be made
to the American Heart Association. Floydean will always be remembered
for her love, courage, & great strength.

PRUNEDALE - Cecelia L. Eyres died of cancer Friday at her home. She
was 61. Born Oct. 9, 1938, in Monterey, she graduated from Pacific
Grove High School in 1956. She lived in Connecticut from 1979 until
moving to Prunedale in 1991. Mrs. Eyres was an artist who worked in
various media. She exhibited her art work in shows in Morgan Hill and
Connecticut. She also enjoyed writing and recently had an article
published in Good Housekeeping magazine about her battle with cancer.
She was an avid letter writer who maintained a correspondence with
dozens of friends all over the world. She was a volunteer decorator at
Mariposa-Go-Round thrift shop until the shop closed last summer. Mrs.
Eyres is survived by her husband, William; two sons, Jeffrey Eyres of
New York City and Michael Eyres of Austin, Texas; and two sisters,
Jolie Venable of Canon City, Colo., and Rebecca Pillsburyof Chicago. A
memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under

Services will be Thursday for Carole S. Hayes, who died Saturday at her
daughter's Watsonville home after a long illness. She was 63. Mrs.
Hayes was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, and graduated from Pacific Grove
High School in 1956. She moved to Watsonville in 1964 and to Sonora in
1998. Mrs. Hayes worked as a nurse for most of her life, including 35
years at Watsonville Community Hospital. She graduated from San Jose
State University in 1959 and first worked at Monterey Community
Hospital. Mrs. Hayes knew she wanted to become a nurse by age 4, when
she disappeared from home and was found reading to patients at a nearby
hospital. In Watsonville, she worked in the coronary and intensive care
units and was head nurse in acute care before transferring to the
hospital's alcohol- and drug-treatment program. Helping people to
overcome addictions was the most fulfilling part of her career, family
members say. Mrs. Hayes also had a passion for travel and organized
family vacations each summer. One of her favorite trips was to
Fairbanks, where she and her husband tried to find her family's
former homestead. She is survived by her husband, Howard Hayes of
Sonora; daughters Elaine Legorreta and Barbara Yoakum, both of
Watsonville; stepdaughters Margaret Starks of San Jose, Janice Hayes of
Watsonville and Donna Panighetti of Cupertino; and 11 grandchildren.
Her stepson, Don Hayes, died before her. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m.
Wednesday at Mehl's Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel. Burial will follow at
Pajaro Valley Memorial Park. Contributions are preferred to Hospice

Carole S. Hayes died Saturday, December 15, 2001, at her daughter's
home in Watsonville after a long illness. A native of Fairbanks,
Alaska, Mrs. Hayes graduated from Pacific Grove High School in 1956
before she moved to Watsonville in 1964. She and her husband, Howard
Hayes, retired to Sonora in 1998. Mrs. Hayes was a lifelong nurse. At
four years old she read to patients at a hospital in Fairbanks. She
graduated from nursing school at San Jose State College in 1959. Mrs.
Hayes began her nursing career at Monterey Community Hospital and spent
35 years at Watsonville Community Hospital where she worked in coronary
care, intensive care, as head nurse in acute care, and the hospital's
alcohol and drug treatment program. Traveling was a passion for Mrs.
Hayes. She is survived by her husband Howard Hayes of Sonora; daughter
and son-in-law Elaine and Peter Legorreta; daughter Barbara Yoakum;
stepchildren Margaret Starks, Jim and Janice Hayes, and Donna
Panighetti; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by stepson
Don Hayes. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
at Mehl's Colonial Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at
11 a.m. at Mehl's Colonial Chapel. Burial will follow at Pajaro Valley

1938 - 2005 Pacific Grove - Tom Sibbald, a retired Monterey City
Planner and Zoning Administrator, and former resident of Pacific Grove,
passed away in Washington State on August 3, 2005. He was 67 years of
age and had enjoyed the last five years of his retirement in Freeland
on Whidbey Island, Washington. At work he loved to help permit
applicants to realize their dreams. In his leisure time he was a nature
lover and enjoyed sailing, hiking, astronomy, biking, designing and
building cars, and remodeling his home. Tom was a true gentleman. He
was a kind, loving and generous husband, son, step-dad, brother, and
friend to so many. Loved dearly, he will be sorely missed. Tom is
survived by his wife and soul mate, Sue Sibbald, stepson Troy Roper
III, sister Donna Hadrian, nieces Cat Hadrian and Sharon Huff and
nephews Mike and Pat Hadrian. To honor his memory, in lieu of flowers,

James E. Wright April 12, 1938 ~ January 19, 2006 TUCSON, AZ - James
(Jim) E. Wright, 67, passed away peacefully January 19, 2006 at Tucson
Medical Center. Jim was born April 12, 1938 in Beloit, KS to Charles
and Helen Wright. With his brother, Galen, the family moved to
Monterey, CA in 1946. Jim then spent his school years in Pacific Grove
as his father worked for The Herald. In high school Jim played
basketball and football but his passion was always for playing golf. He
started out playing Jr. golf, winning the Peter Hay Jr. Golf
Championship in 1955. He later played for a time on the PGA Players
Tour. There were also many invitations for exhibition matches and long
driving contests. Jim started working at a golf course in Pacific Grove
under Fred Fry. He also worked at Fort Ord and Corral de Tierra. At the
age of 20, he was hired as the head pro at Silverado Country Club in
Napa, CA. Through the years he worked at several different courses, the
last being in Safford, AZ as the head pro at Mt. Graham Golf Course,
where he gained a reputation as an outstanding teaching pro. Jim is
survived by his loving wife, Joanne; his mother, Helen and his brother,
Galen. He is also survived by sons Mike (Susan) Wright, Chris
(Jeanette) Wright, Stephen (Darlyne) Romines, Dean Romines, Jerry
Romines, Robert (Aymee) Romines, daughters Debra (Manfred) Korge, Mary
Alice (Andy) Mueller 20 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and
numerous other relatives. Jim Wright was very much loved and will be
greatly missed by all those who knew him.

Pacific Grove - James G. "Jim" Yuma, 62, a retired roofer and
carpenter, died March 28 at his home in Pacific Grove. He was born
March 3, 1939, in Larium, Mich., and lived in Pacific Grove for 59
years. Mr. Yuma graduated from Pacific Grove High School in 1956 and
from Monterey Peninsula College in 1958. While in high school and
college, he was very active in various sports, playing football and
baseball. During the 1950s and early 1960s, he played on several
softball teams and participated in tournaments in Pacific Grove and
Monterey. Mr. Yuma was a very talented roofer and carpenter, and did
major renovation and reparation work on his and his wife's Victorian
home over the years. His hobbies included woodworking, sketching, and
doll making and collecting. He and his wife created delicate porcelain
dolls and brought them to various shows. They also taught classes on
how to pour, paint and clothe them. Mr. Yuma is survived by his wife of
25 years, Patsy; two stepdaughters, Teresa Bradford of Big Sur and
Sharon Crall of Sandy, Ore.; a stepson, Thomas Miller of California, a
daughter, Cara Nason of Carmel Valley, a brother, Russell Yuma of
Oregon, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his
daughter, Hyllery Mearns. No services are planned. The family suggests

Russell G. "Jim" Yuma, 62, a retired roofer and carpenter died in
Pacific Grove, where he lived for 59 years. He graduated from MPC in
1958. A talented athlete he played on several softball clubs in the
1950s and 1960s. A skilled roofer and carpenter he did many fine
restorations. He and his wife created delicate porcelain dolls,
displaying them in many shows. He is survived by his wife Patsy; two
stepdaughters, Teresa Miller Bradford '73 of Big Sur and Sharon
Miller Crall '69 of Oregon; a stepson Thomas Miller; a daughter, Cara
Nason of Carmel Valley; a brother Russell Yuma '55 of Oregon and
three grandchildren.
