her home. Mrs. Dalton was born Jan. 20, 1929, in Lemoore and had lived
in Pacific Grove for 60 years. She was formerly employed by Holman's
Department Store in Pacific Grove and was known for making handcrafted
jewelry boxes. She leaves her husband, James; a daughter, Cheryl Moreno
of Menlo Park; a brother, Robert Clement of Lemoore; her mother, Rose
Bello of Lemoore; and two grandchildren. No services are planned.
Private cremation will be at the Little Chapel by-the-Sea. The Paul
Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests that any

Katherine Estelle Poltrone, a longtime Monterey Peninsula resident,
died Saturday at her Monterey residence. She was 68. Born Dec. 2, 1929,
in Carmel, she had lived on the Monterey Peninsula all her life. Mrs.
Poltrone is survived by her husband of 47 years, Joseph; a son, Skot
Poltrone of Monterey; two daughters, Sandra Young of Monterey and Linda
Poltrone of Warner Springs; a sister, Sally Tidd of Santa Maria; three
grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Her son, Joseph Poltrone Jr., died
in 1995. At her request, no services will be held. Inurnment will be in
Monterey City Cemetery. The Paul Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Bradley - Kenneth Jack Castleberry, 73, retired, died Feb. 6 at his
home. He was born May 30, 1928, in Greenville, Texas, and lived in
Monterey County for more than 50 years. Mr. Castleberry moved to
California with his parents when he was a child, and attended schools
in Pacific Grove and Monterey. He graduated from the California
Maritime Academy and served in the U.S. Army for four years before his
honorable discharge in 1947. Mr. Castleberry worked for the Seaside
Fire Department for seven years before working as a crew foreman with
Ailing House Pest Control Co. of Monterey. In 1976, he retired and
bought a home on Bryson Hesperia Road near Lake San Antonio. He is
survived by his wife, Florence; two sons, Steve Webb of Illinois and
Michael Jones of Texas; two daughters, Carrie Strickland of California
and Lynette Holcomb of Colorado; a brother, Leonard Castleberry of
Pacific Grove; two sisters, Marion Labota of Aptos and Juanita Lanham
of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; 20 grandchildren; and 10
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, John Jones
and Gary Castleberry; and a brother, William Castleberry. At his

Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. He was born Jan. 24,
1929, in Colorado and lived on the Monterey Peninsula for 65 years. He
also lived several years in the Sacramento area with his daughter
Christy. He lived in several places around the world while serving in
the U.S. Army. He was a 1947 Pacific Grove High School graduate. He
served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, including a tour in Vietnam,
before retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He earned the
Bronze Star, Gallantry Cross with Gold Star, National Defense Service
medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Army Commendation Medal. Mr.
Chamberlain worked for Monterey Savings and Loan for 10 years in real
estate development and as a branch manager. He was also a partner with
his brother, Pat, in Chamberlain Transport, and with his daughter in a
retail business. He was a member of the Pacific Grove Heritage Society
and the Pacific Grove High School Alumni Association. He enjoyed golf,
travel and spending time with family and friends. He is remembered for
his charm, laughter and spirit. Mr. Chamberlain is survived by his
wife, Susan Farris Chamberlain of Carmel; a daughter, Christy Jones of
Fair Oaks; his mother Louise Orchard, and stepfather, John Orchard,
both of Auburn; a brother, Ken Chamberlain of Auburn; two stepbrothers,
Jack Orchard of Carmel and Neil Orchard of Rancho Cordova; and a
grandson. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Lorraine
Chamberlain; a son, Jeff Chamberlain; his father, Charles Chamberlain;

Donald M. Enos, 65, of Soquel, a native and former resident of
Monterey, died of heart falure yesterday at Dominican Hospital in Santa
Cruz. Born March 19, 1929, he attended Pacific Grove schools and
graduated from Hartnell College and San Jose State University with a
degree in business administration. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega
fraternity at San Jose State. Mr. Enos was with Owens Illinois Glass
Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1985 as director of purchasing and
traffic. After his retirement, he became a real estate agent for ERA
Real Estate Center in Santa Cruz and had lived in Soquel for the past
eight years. He was a member of the Certified Traffic Society, Santa
Cruz Elks Lodge No. 824, the California State Board of Realtors and the
Pacific Grove High School Alumni Association. Mr. Enos is survived by
his wife, Lillian; a son, Don of Capitola; two daughters, Karen
Enos-Moyers of Scotts Valley and Terri Kidd of Benicia; a brother,
Raymond of Van Nuys, and two grandchildren. Friends may call at the
Paul Mortuary from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow. Funeral services will be

Wayne Hauswirth, 56, a former Pacific Grove resident, died Monday at
Kaiser Permanent Hospital in Garden Grove after a short illness. Born
June 13, 1929, Mr. Hauswirth lived in Pacific Grove from 1941 to 1950.
He served in the navy from 1947 to 1950, and again from 1952 to 1954.
After his second military discharge, he moved to Southern Californian,
finally settling in Garden Grove. Survivors include his wife, Audrey;
two brothers, Robert and John of Pacific Grove; and two sisters,
Elizabeth Scranton of Hughson and Donna Nair of Pacific Grove. The
Neptune Society will arrange cremation, and the ashes will be scattered
at sea.

Monterey Peninsula after a lengthy illness. He was 62. Born Sept. 27,
1926, in Los Angeles, Mr. King served as a corporal in the Army Air
Corps during World War II. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal,
Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a
switchman for Pacific Telesis for 35 years. He was also a member of the
Sam Champion Council of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and of Local
9426 of the Communication Workers of America. Mr. King is survived by
his wife, Mary Ann King; a daughter, Stephanie Ann King of Eureka; a
brother, Arthur King of Monterey; his mother, Harriet King of Pacific
Grove; three nephews and one niece. At his request, no services will be

Shirley Lee Gannon, 61, a Pacific Grove artst, died Wednesday of heart
failure at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. Mrs. Gannon,
who was known as Xirli, was born on Nov. 14, 1928, in Gorin, Mo. She
lived on the Peninsula most of her lfe, graduating from Pacific Grove
High School in 1947. An artist, mother and homemaker, she was a member
of the California First Theater, Monterey Firemen's Wives Auxiliary
and the Pacific Grove Art Association. As an artist, Mrs. Gannon
painted with colored sand, using it as her primary medium. Her work was
exhibited in galleries around the Peninsula, as well as in Paris and
other cities throughout the world. She won numerous awards for her
work, including some first prizes at the Monterey County Fair. One of
her best-known pieces, "Madonna and Child," was featured all over
the world. Mrs. Gannon also created the mosaic lettering for Safeway at
the store's Munras Street location. She is survived by her father,
Herman Korf of Ojai; a daughter, Pennie Hernandez of Pacific Grove; a
son, James Cavin of Vallejo; a sister, Katie O'Neil of Bakersfield;
and two granddaughters. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Saturday at Otter Point in Pacific Grove. The Paul Mortuary is in

Pacific Grove High School. A Navy veteran, he was a retired driver for
Standard Oil Co. in Monterey. He is survived by his wife of 43 years,
Julia; three daughters, Pamela Dickson, Sheila Leslie and Deborah
Brock, all of Reno; a sister, Mary Jane Bailey of Santa Maria; and six

John T. "Jack" Leslie, 67, ('47) of Reno, NV, a former Monterey
Peninsula resident, died of lung cancer at home in April 1997. A native
of Monterey, he lived in PG for 45 years before moving to Reno in 1974.
John was a board of director of our association from 1968-971 and vice
president under the late "Gertie" Ernest '22 from 1971-1973. He
was also a Navy veteran and a retired driver for Standard Oil Company

Peggy Relac, 76, of Yuba City, and a long time resident of King City,
died Dec. 7. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Roy
Relac. Survivors include a daughter, Karen Broadbent of Yuba City, and
a son, Michael Relac of Limington, Maine. Peggy was born in Phoenix,
Ariz. In 1950 she and Roy were married in Monterey. Peggy and Roy soon
moved to the Mee Ranch. They moved to King City several years later
where they made their home and raised their family. She worked at the
King City Police Department for 17 years before retiring in 1995. In
2000 Peggy decided to move closer to family, and bought a home in Yuba
City near her daughter. She was happiest, caring for her two dogs and
two cats and managing her beautiful home.

husband, Tom; and two sons, Jeff Hefling of Seaside and Mark Hefling of
Sacramento. At her request, no services will be held. Her ashses will

Pacific Grove and graduated from Pacific Grove High School in 1947. Mr.
Walker served as master counselor of the Monterey Chapter of the Order
of the Demolay in 1946.He had been a member of the Pacific Grove
Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Pacific Grove High
School Alumni Association. Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Jeanie
of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three daughters, Diane Walker Anest of San
Antonio, Texas, Debra Peterson of Hercules and Carolyn Samuels of North
Myrtle Beach; two sisters, Wynette Cowen of Pacific Grove and Roberta
Bodine of Brentwood; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by his parents, Elbert and Carol Walker. A memorial service was held
July 3 at the family home in North Myrtle Beach. Local memorial
services will be held at a later date.

George Porter Walker, 73, a retired furniture industry worker, died
July 1 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, S.C., of
complications from heart surgery. He was born April 23, 1929, in
Pacific Grove, and was a 1947 Pacific Grove High School graduate.
Memorial celebration will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at his
sister Wynette Cowen's home, 507 Beaumont Drive, Pacific Grove.Flu shot
