Maurice DeLoy "Doc" Dastrup October 21, 1927 – April 5, 2016 Resident of Santa Clara, California Our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather succumbed to COPD at age 88 on April 5, 2016. We think of him wading now in Montana's Madison River after trout in the Mayfly hatch. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, DeLoy Albert Dastrup and Clelia Malan Dastrup, and his son-in-law, Michael Lee Goodfellow. He leaves his wife, Margaret (Meg) Cobb Dastrup, his brother, Larrie A. Dastrup; his three daughters, Janet Rose Hamm (James) of Campbell, CA, Susan Deloyanne Parsley (James) of Corona, CA, Dione Marie Goodfellow of Bountiful, UT; his stepdaughter, Stephanie Linda Ray of San José, CA, and his stepson, Michael Christian Dastrup of Roseville, CA. Maurice also leaves six grandchildren – Alan Parsley (Holly), Niles Bo (Kari), Dreama Bo Fackrell (Jared), Alexander Parsley, Reighlynn Parsley, and Logan Goodfellow; and six great-grandchildren – Dallis Bo, Iason Bo, Dayton Bo, Aurora Bo, Sonia Mae Parsley, and Kira Parsley – as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. Born October 21, 1927 in Ogden, Utah, to Clelia Adelaide Malan and DeLoy A. Dastrup, Maurice moved with his parents to California in 1940. He graduated from Pacific Grove High School in June 1945 and, in October 1946, joined the U.S. Army. One assignment was with the Military Police Group at Sandia Base, Los Alamos. After his discharge, Maurice planned to attend Hartnell College on the G.I. Bill, but an uncle persuaded him to become a plumber instead. $10 a day was a lot of money then! Maurice (Doc) joined Local Union 393, Plumbers and Steamfitters, on August 11, 1948. A lifelong member, he received his 65-year pin on January 23, 2016. Doc spent most of his career at Ray L. Hellwig Plumbing & Heating in Santa Clara. He was the foreman on many commercial projects including H-P Building 42, the Santa Clara Convention Center, and Marriott's Great America. He married Helen Marie Dionne on September 8, 1956. They raised their three daughters in Boulder Creek, CA. Following his divorce from Helen, he married Margaret Cobb Hines on August 19, 1978, and was a supportive stepfather to her two children. Doc loved fly fishing and building radio-controlled model airplanes. His 1989 retirement gave him more time for trips to Utah and Alaska with family and Hellwig buddies, but he always had time to pitch in when neighbors needed help. The family wishes to thank the ER and CICU staffs at Good Samaritan Hospital as well as his caregivers at Woodlands Healthcare Center for helping him during his final days. At Maurice's request, no services have been held; however, a celebration of his life is planned at Central Park (Santa Clara) in June. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored if you were to make a contribution in his memory to Trout Unlimited or to your favorite charity.
