to Pacific Grove Obituaries
1921 Elizabeth Violet Nix (88)
Elizabeth Violet (Nix) Bryan Curtis
Written by family (Betty Jean Nix ’56)
Elizabeth Bryan Curtis, 88, artist and outdoor enthusiast, died of
cancer on April 4, 1992 in Gardnerville, Nevada. Born January 27,
1904, in Oakland, CA, she moved with her family to Carmel and later
Pacific Grove where she graduated from Pacific Grove High School. She
then attended the California College of Arts and Crafts and spent many
years as a graphic artist in San Francisco. She enjoyed and painted
the wildflowers of the desert and Sierras. Many of her summers were
spent in Moose, Wyoming where she accompanied her second husband,
Leland Curtis, also an artist, through Grand Teton National Park. She
is survived by a niece, Betty Down of Woodside, CA and two nephews,
Thomas Nix of Fresno, CA and James Nix of Saratoga, CA. As she wishes,
her ashes will be buried in Twentynine Palms with those of her first
husband's, Col. Henry L. Watson. Family suggests that any memorial
contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society.
