Bruce J. Bauer, 53, a graphic designer, died Tuesday [July 24] in
Nevada City. He was born Sept. 17, 1947 in Tampa, Fla., and lived on
the Monterey Peninsula for more than 45 years before moving to Nevada
City. Mr. Bauer graduated from Pacific Grove High School in 1965. He
served in the U.S. Navy as a radarman from 1965 to 1969. His interests
included art, photography, philosophy and the outdoors, and especially
sharing the company of friends and family. He is survived by his wife,
Helen; a daughter, Raina Bauer of Monterey; a son, Gregg Bauer of
Monterey; his mother, Trude Conley of Monterey; five brothers, Phil
Bauer of Sacramento, Danny Bauer of Portland, Ore., Barry Bauer of
Middletown, Roger Bauer of Santa Maria and Joe Bauer of Pacific Grove;
and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by another
brother, Webb Sterling Bauer. A memorial service will be held July 30
at Pioneer Park in Nevada City.

at noon in Pioneer Park for Bruce Jay Bauer of Nevada City. Mr. Bauer
died Tuesday, July 24, in Nevada City. He was 53. He was born Sept. 17,
1947, in Tampa, Fla., and lived on the Monterey Peninsula for more than
45 years before moving to Nevada City. He graduated for Pacific Grove
High School in 1965, and served in the U.S. Navy as a radar man from
1965-69. A graphic designer, his interests included art, photography,
philosophy, the outdoors, and sharing the company of family and
friends. He is survived by his wife, Helen of Nevada City; daughter,
Raina, and son, Greg, both of Monterey; mother, Trude Conley of
Monterey; brothers Phil of Sacramento, Danny of Portland, Ore., Barry
of Middletown, Roger of Santa Maria, and Joe of Pacific Grove; and
numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother,
Web. Donations may be made to Hospice of the Foothills. Arrangements
are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels.

After graduation from PG Hi he served 4 years in the Army. His
interests included art, photography, philosophy, and the company of
family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Helen; a daughter,
Raina Bauer of Monterey; a son, Gregg Bauer of Monterey; his mother,
Trude Conley of Monterey; five brothers, Phil Bauer '59 of

Phyllis C. Doctorchik, a former resident of Pacific Grove, died Jan. 5
at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. She was 50. Born March 28, 1947, in
Carmel, she had lived in Pacific Grove for more than 20 years before
moving to Santa Rosa in 1973. Mrs. Doctorchik graduated from Pacific
Grove High School in 1965. She was active with the Sebastopol Cancer
Support Group. She is survived by her husband, Joseph, and her mother,
Ruth Louise Carr of Carmel Valley. Services will be held at 2 p.m.
Thursday in the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital chapel. The family
suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to Breast Cancer

Dean Steven Corey, 43, a former resident of Pacific Grove, died in San
Francisco on Feb. 2. A resident of Pacific Grove for 10 years, Mr.
Corey was born in Havre, Mont., on March 27, 1947. He was a 1965
graduate of Pacific Grove High School and graduated from Monterey
Peninsula College in 1967. For the past 16 years, he was special
collections librarian of the Richard A. Gleeson Library at the
University of San Francisco. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he was
awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Air Medal
and the Army Commendation Medal. He is survived by his mother, Wilda
Corey of Pacific Grove, his father, Dean Corey of Choteau, Mont.; and a
brother, William Corey of Pacific Grove. The California Funeral Home in
San Francisco was in charge of arrangements. A memorial service will be
held on Monday at 3 p.m. at McLaren Hall of the University of San
Francisco. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent
to the Dean Steven Corey Endowment Fund, Gleeson Library University,
University of San Francisco, 94117-1080.

Stephen G. Harr, 54, an auto detailer, died Nov. 27 at his home. He was
born Dec. 31, 1947, in Baltimore, and grew up in Pacific Grove. He
lived in Pacific Grove, Monterey and Salinas for 40 years. He worked
for Lexus of Monterey Peninsula and was a former Pacific Grove police
officer with 17 years on the force. He enjoyed spending time with his
family. Mr. Harr is survived by a son, Joseph Harr of San Francisco; a
daughter, Cynthia Harr of Sacramento; a sister, Cheryl Barbee of
Pacific Grove; and his father, Gerald "Jack" Harr of Pacific Grove. At
his request, no services will be held. Struve and Laporte will handle

Sheri Lyn Henn Galarza, 55, a preschool teacher, died from breast and
brain cancer May 13 at her home She was born June 18, 1947, in Dayton,
Ohio, and lived in Monterey County for 10 years. She moved to Hawaii in
1967.Mrs. Galarza graduated from Pacific Grove High School in 1965,
received her bachelor's degree from University of Hawaii, and received
her master's degree in education from Heritage College.She was a
nationally recognized educator for her work in the integration of
culturally relevant curricula into early-childhood programs, developing
strategies to involve parents in the child's education. She is
survived by her husband, Rockford; two sons, Denton Galarza of Maui and
Presley Galarza of Hilo, Hawaii; a daughter, Kimberly Macadangdang of
Maui; mother, Helen Henn of Santa Maria; two brothers, Keene Henn of
Santa Maria and Roger Henn of Tennessee; and two grandchildren. The
family suggests that any memorial contributions be made to the National

Sheri Lyn Galarza, 54, of Kalaoa, Kona, a former teacher at Kamehameha
Schools, died May 13 at home. She was born in Dayton, Ohio. She is
survived by husband Rockford, sons Denton and Presley, daughter
Kimberly Macadangdang, mother Helen Henn and brothers Keene and Roger
Henn. Services: noon Sunday at Kona Baptist Church. Call after 10 a.m.
Casual attire. No flowers. Donations suggested to Hospice of Kona or

Joel Lenno, 51 ('65) of Sacramento died of a massive heart attack in
August 1998. He will be deeply missed by his wife Penny Riley, also
'65, her two children and his own two children. He was just realizing
his dream of having his own business, utilizing his skills with
computers and graphic arts. A memorial was held in Sacramento, attended
by family and friends.

Dear Bill, It is with very deep regret that I write you with another
passing of one of our alumni. My husband Joel Lenno passed away
suddenly August 24, 1998 of a massive heart attack. He was only 51. He
was a member of the class of 1965, as I was also. He is deeply missed
by myself, his two children, my two children and three grandchildren.
He was just beginning to realize his dream of having his own business
utilizing his wonderful skills with computers and graphic art. He is
also missed by all of his friends. A memorial was held in Sacramento
and was attended by family and friends whose life he had touched in his
short time on this earth.

19] at her home. She was born Dec. 31, 1946, in California and was a
lifelong resident of the county. Ms. McGaughey was a administrative
assistant for reservations at Pebble Beach Co. for 13 yeas. She enjoyed
camping, fishing, shopping and reading. She is survived by three sons,
Gerald Norris, Jr. of Soledad, and Jacob Norris and Jarrod Norris, both
of Salinas; her parents, Jack and Ruby McGaughey of Pacific Grove; and
two brothers, Timothy McGaughey of Springfield, Va., and Gary McGaughey
of Santa Rosa. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter,
Krystalynn Norris; and grandson, Gerald F. Norris, III. Graveside
services will be at 1 p.m. today at Mission Memorial Park in Seaside.
She will be buried alongside her maternal grandparents. Mission
Mortuary is handling arrangements. The family suggests that any

Maxine Chamberlain, 41, a Peninsula native and former resident of
Pacific Grove, died last Saturday at her home in Auburn after an
extended battle with cancer. Born May 14, 1947, in Monterey, she had
lived in Pacific Grove until 1968 Mrs. Chamberlain is survived by her
husband, Kenneth; a son, Kenneth of Germany; a daughter, Holly of
Auburn; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arizona Perkins of Pacific Grove; a
sister, Marian Pina of Monterey; four brothers, Thomas Perkins of King
City, Roy Perkins of Carmel, John Perkins of Reedley and Edward Perkins
of Seaside, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be
held next Saturday at Cypress Community Church, 680 Monterey-Salinas
Highway, at 1 p.m. The family prefers that any contributions in her
memory go to the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.

Gregory Glenn Sherrill of Monterey died of cancer Tuesday at Monterey
Convalescent Hospital. He was 42. Born Dec. 16, 1947, in Englewood,
N.J., he was a graduate of Pacific Grove High School and Chico State
College. He had been in the restaurant business and traveled widely for
20 years before coming back to the Monterey Peninsula three years ago
from Miami, Fla. He is survived by his mother, Gillian Sherrill Wagner,
and stepfather Charles T. Wagner, both of Monterey; a brother, Scott
Sherrill of Carmel Valley; a sister, Deborah Richards of Tiburon; his
grandmother, Doris Johnson of Pacific Grove; two nieces and a nephew. A
memorial service will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at St. Mary's
Episcopal Church in Pacific Grove. Cremation will be at the Little
Chapel by the Sea under direction of the Paul Mortuary. The family
suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to the Hospice of the
Central Coast, Natividad Medical Center, Community Hospital of the
Monterey Peninsula or to the charity of the donor's choice.
