Monterey Herald, CA July 6, 2018 (scanned)

Richard E. Goblirsch 1931-2018 Pacific Grove / Richard (Dick) Goblirsch, 86, passed away on June 22, 2018 at home surrounded by family. Richard was born in Visalia, CA to Andrew and Nellie Goblirsch and moved to Pacific Grove at the age of three. He attended Pacific Grove schools, graduating from Pacific Grove High in 1951. After enlisting in the Marine Corps, he served in the Korean War, returning to Pacific Grove to attend Monterey Peninsula College and San Jose St., earning a degree in Business Administration. Richard pursued a lengthy career in urban redevelopment and economic development for the cities of Seaside, San Francisco, the Government of Guam, Santa Ana, Sand City, Marina and Del Rey Oaks. He was especially proud of developing numerous low-income housing units and the Seaside Auto Center in the mid-60's and the Sand City Costco in the late 80's. Richard worked for decades on the reuse of the former Fort Ord and that body of work serves as his lasting legacy on the Monterey Peninsula. Richard is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters Caron DeSeguriant (Brett); Julia Warren (John); Jean Chrzas; Cathi Thoorsell (Perry); Kathleen Lee (Rob); his first wife, Mary Lou Boone Hudson; grandchildren James, Patrick, Spencer, Daniel, Andria, Sara, Jamie, Dennis, Blase, Starly-Jazz, Rory and Megan, many great-grandchildren and his beloved Irish Dachshund, Paddy. Richard is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, David and Margaret. Richard loved traveling internationally, the SF 49ers, attending PG Breaker football and basketball games and joining his high school buddies Bill, Kenny, Howard and Charlie each Wednesday for lunch. He loved his hometown and would often tell stories of his youth in PG. Richard defined gruffness, which hid a heart that carried deep love for his family and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pacific Grove High School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. The family extends their thanks to the doctors and caregivers for their care and support during Richard's last days. Richard will be interred at the CA Central Coast Veterans Cemetery at Ft. Ord on July 13, 2018 at 3:30 pm followed by a Celebration of Life at Bayonet & Black Horse Clubhouse from 4-6 pm. Semper Fidelis!
