The film tells the story of a young boy named Stanley, who is attending school in Mumbai. Stanley is very popular among his friends and teachers for his creativity, wit, and humour. However, he does not bring his lunch box or 'dabba' to school, unlike all his other classmates. He shares food with his friends, much to the annoyance of a greedy Hindi teacher, who forces children to share their food with him. The teacher warns Stanley that he cannot attend school until he brings his own dabba. Stanley stops coming to school, and his friends miss him. They discover that Stanley is a working child and lives with his uncle. They also find out that there is an inter-school concert where Stanley can showcase his talent. They decide to help Stanley and bring him back to school.
The film received critical acclaim and won several awards, including a special award at the Giffoni Film Festival, one of the largest children's film festivals in Europe. The film also highlighted the issues of poverty, child labour, and the importance of education.
