Hi Jimbo and Kristi,

Today, in our read aloud "A Friendship for Today" the main character had a meaningful conversation with her friend that really resonated with Lucy. Lucy was upset on Friday because she was certain that she could not achieve a certain goal no matter how hard she tried. This excerpt allowed the class to have a meaningful discussion about effort and how it impacts progress. Lucy worked very diligently during our writing period, and of course, met her goal. She seemed much relieved.

I sent home a copy of this excerpt for Lucy to share with you. Please read this excerpt together and let me know how your discussion goes and how this relates to her overall feelings about school and work, etc.
