Subject: Peripheral IV Conversion - NH Market

Good Afternoon Dr. Rosenbleeth & Lauren,

With Deanna on PTO this week, I wanted to ensure the Anesthesia group had ample awareness of an important initiative we have coming down the pipeline. We are converting our Peripheral IVs to enhance patient safety, clinician safety, and practice consistency across all of HCA Capital Division. Division Nursing Leadership and Supply Chain have aligned and have selected the BD Insyte Autoguard as the new Peripheral IV we will all be moving to. Attached is the Huddle Card for you, please disseminate to your group for awareness.

Change Rationale:

  • Reduces PIV‑related complications and needlestick‑injury risk – improving patient/clinician safety
  • Aligns with Infusion Nursing Society standards and HCA Clinical Services Group recommendations
  • Supports regulatory readiness and reduces systemwide variation

Catheter Selection:

BD Insyte Autoguard Blood Control IV Catheter offers improved first‑attempt success and a 95% reduction in blood exposure risk. 1 in 2 IVs across the US is an Insyte Autoguard BC Catheter, showcasing wide clinical acceptance.

Go‑Live Dates:

  • NH: Mar 23–Apr 5
  • Portsmouth Regional: Monday March 23 – Friday April 3
  • Frisbie Memorial: Monday March 23 – Sunday March 29
  • NECOS: Monday March 30 – Friday April 3

Education:

  • BD will have multiple vascular-access nurses at each facility performing roving rounds to support education
  • BD rounds with wet arms and will provide bedside support to clinicians

Please reach out with any questions you both may have. Thank you, Aaron

In the memo they conveniently didn’t
mention that they are saving a ton of money on the switch… I guess no one told me that. But just a damn good hunch…
