The Jerry Sandusky Sexcapade and the cover-up which followed
actually is only a far-distant second behind Penn State University's
worst conspiracy of all time.
<
This, of course, is when Ed Conrad took a few of his mammalian
fossils -- discovered between anthracite veins -- to State College
decades ago to seek its assistance in honest interpretatiion.
<
Not only did three diffferent conspiratorial terrorists -- learned
professors, that is -- insist they were NOT petrified bones, as Ed
claimed, but instead, common concretions shaped by the elements.
<
ED CONRAD'S DEALINGS WITH PENN STATE CONSPIRATORS
<
The first visit was to Dr. Roger Cuffey of the university's
Department
of Paleontology.
<
What a joke that visit was!
<
When I arrived at his laboratory, Cuffey -- who was sent photos
of some of Ed's key specimens -- immediately told me I would have
a golden opportunity to see what the internal structure of REAL bone
looks like under a series of microscopes -- and had about five or six
set up for me in his laboratory.
<
YEP, none of what I was seeing looked anything like the internal
structure I has seen during my own miscroscopic investigation
of my specimens. The pinholes -- of what is known as Haversian
canals -- were much too large, at least 15-20 times larger.
<
Little did I realize at the time that Cuffey was using bone samples
from a reptile -- a dinosaur bone -- and only someone skilled in
the sciences would know that the "canals' in reptilian bone are
many, many times larger than that of mammalian bone, including
those in the bones of human beings.
<
But the punch line came BEFORE I even looked into one of Cuffey's
microscopes.

As we walked toward the first microscope, Cuffey told me he had
a letter for me and pulled it and the 8x10 envelope from his shirt
pocket. Then he nervously tried to put the letter in the envelope
to hand it to me but couldn't do it after attempting a few times.
<
Finally, he simply handed me both the letter and envelope separately
but I didn't read it until I got back home.

It was a letter written by Cuffey in which he stated that we both
HAD SEEN that the Haversian canals in my specimens in no way
match those we had seen under the microscopes in his lab and
that this should end my inquiry once and for all. It was a good try
but NO CIGAR, he told me in so many words..
<
The letter, as mentioned, was handed to me EVEN BEFORE
I looked at the internal structure of HIS fraudulet specimens
because he certainly knew I had climed my discoveries were
mammalian bone, including a skul identified by Wilton M. Krogman,
considered one of the foremost human anatomists in the world
and author of "The Human Skeleton in Forensic Medicine."
<
< PART II
<
Anthropolopgist Richard Eckhardt was contacted months later and
told about my latest discoveries of petrified bones -- some which
I had learned (from Krogman)ere human. I sent him a few photos
and some information about the Carboniferous-dated location where
they were found .
<
When I called him back in a week or two, Eckhardt seemed very
eager to see my specimens firsthand and said he would like me
to pay a visit as soon as his schedule would permit him to do so.

Eckhardt, however, never called me back, so I picked up the phone
about two-three months later and called him. Strangely, he no longer
wanted to see what I had discovered and actually was rather rude.
Bt I insisted -- reminding him that he had made a promise --
and asked WHEN I should I visit the campus to meet with him. He
reluctantly agreed and set up a date.
<
When I arrived at Eckhardt's office, I took in a few specimen to
show him and casually mentioned that I had some larger specimens
in the trunk of my car.
<
Eckhardt then examined my specimens and shrugged them off by
identifying them all as concretions within a matter of about four-
five
minutes (or less).
<
I thanked him for his time, shook his hand and began walking to
the door.
<
Suddenly, Eckhardt asked if he could accompany to my car to see
the specimens I had told him I had in my trunk.
<
Eckhardt grabbed his camera from his desk and, with the trunk open,
took a few photos of my larger specimens.
<
< PART III
<
After leaving Eckhardt's office and driving off campus, I was
pleasantly surprised to see a building designated as "Department of
Entomology."
<
You see, more than a year before, I decided to double-check
if Krogman was correct when, just after I had discovered the
first few of my strange objects between coal veins, he identified
one of them a a portion of a giant prehistoric scorpion.
<

<
I searched a Penn State manual, then phoned Charles Pitts, head of
Penn State's Department of Entomology.
<
Pitts was gracious on the phone and agreed to examine the specimen.
particularly impressed when I informed him of Krogman' pronouncement.
It was delivered to him a day or two later by a PSU student in my
town.
<
For about a month, I hadn't heard a word from Pitts and finally
phoned him. He was rather cordial and told me, even though it's
a magnificent specimen, it was nothing more than a concretion
and certainly not part of a giant scorpion.
<
I thanked him for his integrity and his efforts on behalf but told
him the student who had delivered it to him had dropped out of school
and I didn't know when I'd get a chance to drive the 100 miles
to pick it up.
<
More than a year later, just minutes after getting a royal screwing
from Eckhardt, I was driving off campus when I noticed a building
with a sign designating it as the Department of Entomology.
I had forgotten all about the "scorpion" fossil I had taken there
more than a eyar before (if it hadn't been dicarded after all that
time, since I had been told it was nothing more than a rock..
<
II entered the main entrance and asked a woman at the front
desk: "Dr. Pitts, please."
<
"Oh, I'm awful sorry," she replied. "Dr. Pitts is in England and
won't be back for a few week. May I help you?"
<
"About a year ago I left a specimen here for examination and came
to pick it up." she was told.
<
"Your name?"
<
"Ed Conrad."
<
Immediately, she flashed a broad smile, stood up and stated: "Mr.
Conrad, follow me."
<
She led me through a large office, down a corridor and opened
a door marked "Conference Room." She then walked further, made
made a quick turn and pointed.
<
There on a table was my speicmen.
<
I might add that the conference room, containing a table about 18
feet long, was spic and span. My dirty old specimen was the ONLY
thing in the room.
<
If, indeed, the specimen was a concretion, why wasn't it hauled
down the basement and completely out of sight?
<
I rest my case.
