On February 20th, all Bitcoin clients will switch to using checksums
when they initially connect to peers, as further explained in [1].
This will affect P2Pool because the p2pool daemon makes a local P2P
connection to bitcoind in order to listen for new blocks.
I didn't know about this until about three weeks ago, so P2Pool only
had support after this commit:

Please upgrade P2Pool to version 0.8.5 or a newer commit from git.
Un-upgraded P2Pool nodes will freeze on startup at this point:
