Hello,

I had my first successful extraction of a source using my new "titled-
slit" code. The code only does sum extraction at the moment and does
not identify or fix bad pixels. But optimal extraction doesn't get
you much in the NIR and bad pixels can be found and ignored when
combining many spectra together.

The background subtraction is done using the Kelson bspline technique
and does a pretty good job.

I still have a great deal more to do before I can release a beta
version, mostly having to do with getting everything working together
in Spextool. But we have crossed a major hurdle and I hope to get a
beta version for both APO and Palomar out before the first of the
year.

Stay tuned!

Hi Mike,

Fantastic! This is great news. I'm glad you had time to do it because
I am bogged down with Planck stuff. We are now working with real data
and all the bugs are coming out of the woodwork. It's fun though. Glad
to hear you used Kelson's bspline and that it worked well on tspec data.

Cheers,
Lee
