Let's see, you are running a version which is over 6 YEARS out of
date on an OS that it wasn't fully approved on with a Word processor that

Although Leonard is right in saying Acrobat 4.05 is ancient, it is however compatible with Windows and Office 2000. (But do not upgrade these without upgrading Acrobat)
In word go to:
tools>options>compatability tab and deselect the
'use printer metrics for layout' option.
This will reflow the layout of you Word documnt one more time so checkif the layout is still intact.
Then go to file>print and choose Acrobat distiller as your printer (if it's not the default printer) close the print dialog box without pritning.
Then use the pdfmaker together with distiller (ignore pdfwriter from now on) to create the pdf.
