It's all in the PDF Reference available from Adobe's web site.

The pdf Reference 1.5 is 1,172 pages long. Pdfs are supposed to make our lives easier? Where is that summary of version features?

If you go to the bookmarks for the file that automatically opens
when you open the PDF file, there is the first item labeled "Contents."
If you click on that, it gets you to the book's table of contents.
And surprisingly enough, the second and third items are summaries of
the changes in PDF 1.5 and 1.6 which, if you click on them, would get
you directly to that material at the beginning of the book. Alternatively,
you could have gotten there also by opening the "Introduction" bookmark
and clicking on the appropriate entry.

PDFs are supposed to make USERS lives either - not necessary
developers ;).

PDF Ref 1.6 starting with section 1.2 is "Introduction to PDF 1.6
features", then 1.3 is "1.5 features", etc.
