Kuzey Kıbrıs'ta seçimi muhalefetin lideri Tufan Erhürman kazandı: Türkiye'den tepkiler ne oldu?

Kıbrıs'ın kuzeyindeki Türk yönetimi yeni liderini seçmek için 19 Ekim Pazar günü sandığa gitti. Resmi olmayan sonuçlara göre seçimleri ana muhalefetteki Cumhuriyetçi Türk Partisi (CTP) lideri Tufan Erhürman kazandı.
Kuzey Kıbrıs Yüksek Seçim Kurulu, Erhürman'ın cumhurbaşkanlığı yarışını kazandığını duyurdu. Seçime katılım oranı yüzde 64,87 olarak kaydedildi.
CTP Genel Başkanı Tufan Erhürman oyların yüzde 62,76'sını, mevcut Cumhurbaşkanı Ersin Tatar ise oyların yüzde 35,81'ini aldı.
"Büyük bir kara propaganda yürütüldüğünü" ancak Türk yetkililerin kendisini çok iyi tanıdığını kaydeden Erhürman, "Türkiye'yle istişare etmeksizin Kıbrıs'ta bir dış politikanın belirlenmesi bugüne kadar söz konusu olmadı, benim dönemimde de asla söz konusu olmayacak" dedi.
Cumhurbaşkanı Recep Tayyip Erdoğan da bir açıklama yaparak Erhürman'ı tebrik etti.
Seçimlerde başı çeken iki liderden Tatar adada iki devleti, Erhürman ise federasyonu savunuyordu.
Ankara'nın Tatar'ı desteklediği biliniyordu. Seçim sürecinde Tatar lehine kampanya yürütmek için adaya Türkiye'den birçok üst düzey siyasetçi gitmişti.

Seçimlerde yedi aday yarıştı.
En iddialı iki aday, eski Ulusal Birlik Partisi (UBP) lideri ve mevcut Cumhurbaşkanı Ersin Tatar ve ana muhalefetteki Cumhuriyetçi Türk Partisi (CTP) lideri Tufan Erhürman'dı.
Diğer adaylar ise Osman Zorba (Kıbrıs Sosyalist Partisi) ve hepsi bağımsız Arif Salih Kırdağ, Ahmet Boran, Mehmet Hasgüler ve İbrahim Yazıcı idi.
Bağımsız aday Hüseyin Gürlek 17 Ekim Cumartesi günü Cumhurbaşkanı Ersin Tatar lehine seçimlerden çekildiğini açıkladı.
Adada cumhurbaşkanlığı büyük oranda sembolik bir rol ancak Kıbrıs sorununun çözümüne dair müzakerelerde Kıbrıslı Türkleri temsil ettiği için oldukça önemli.
Ersin Tatar ve Tufan Erhürman Kıbrıs meselesi, Türkiye ile ilişkiler ve dış politika konularında farklı ekolleri temsil ediyor.
Erdoğan'dan tebrik, Özel'den destek, Bahçeli'den tepki
Seçimi kazanan CTP adayı Tufan Erhürman'a Ankara'dan da tebrik mesajları geldi.
Cumhurbaşkanı Recep Tayyip Erdoğan açıklamasında, "Resmi olmayan sonuçlara göre Cumhurbaşkanı seçilen Sayın Tufan Erhürman'ı tebrik ediyorum. Kıbrıs Türkü kardeşlerimizin iradesini sandığa yansıttığı bu seçimin ülkelerimiz ve bölgemiz için hayırlı olmasını diliyorum" ifadelerini kullandı.
CHP Genel Başkanı Özgür Özel ise "Kardeş partimiz CTP'nin lideri, çok değerli dostum Sayın Tufan Erhürman'ı yürekten kutluyorum" dedi ve Kıbrıs Türk halkının "KKTC demokrasisine ve milli iradeye, kendi çıkarları için dışarıdan müdahale eden, tuttuğu tarafın propagandasını yapmak adına adaya adeta çıkarma yapan zihniyete de cevap verdiğini" söyledi.
Özel ayrıca Kuzey Kıbrıs'taki seçimlere müdahale iddialarına yönelik olarak, "Ankara'da sadece ülkemizin dış politika görgüsünü değil, hukuku da açıkça hiçe sayan, desteklediği adaya kazandırmak için her türlü kara propagandaya başvuran, bu saatlerde dahi seçim sonuçlarına yönelik hazımsızlığını sosyal medyadan duyuranlar da dileriz Kıbrıs Türkünün mesajını doğru anlamıştır" ifadelerini kullandı.
MHP'nin resmi sosyal medya hesaplarında paylaşılan açıklamaya göre MHP Genel Başkanı Devlet Bahçeli, Kuzey Kıbrıs'taki seçimlerin "çok az bir katılımla gerçekleştiğini" savunarak, "Seçim sonucu, seçim kurulu tarafından açıklanmış olsa dahi KKTC parlamentosu acilen toplanmalı, seçim sonuçları ve federasyona dönüşün kabul edilemeyeceğini ilan etmeli ve Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'ne katılma kararı almalıdır" ifadelerini kullandı.
Erhürman, Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti ile müzakereden yana
Erhürman seçilmesi durumunda Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti ile sonuncusu 2017'de yapılan resmi müzakerelere yeniden başlayacağını açıklamıştı.
Erhürman, iki devletli çözümün Kıbrıs Türklerinin ekonomik ve siyasi izolasyonunu sonlandırmak için gerçekçi bir yaklaşım olmadığını savunuyor.

2020'den bu yana cumhurbaşkanlığı görevini yürüten Tatar ise, Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti ile federasyon temelli müzakerelere karşı çıkmıştı.
Ankara'nın desteklediği Tatar, Kıbrıs Türklerinin egemen ve eşit bir devlete sahip olduğu "iki devletli model" çözümünü savundu.
Tatar, 3D adını verdiği "doğrudan uçuş, doğrudan ticaret ve doğrudan temas" talepleri karşılanmadığı müddetçe Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti ile masaya oturmayacağını söylemişti.
Türkiye Tatar'ı destekledi
Türkiye'nin seçimde oynadığı rol de Kıbrıs'ta gündem oldu.
Tatar lehine kampanya yürütmek için adaya Türkiye'den birçok üst düzey siyasetçi gitti.
Adayların belirlenmesinden bu yana Kıbrıs'ın kuzeyine giden isimlerin arasında eski İçişleri Bakanı Süleyman Soylu, eski Savunma Bakanı Hulusi Akar, Büyük Birlik Partisi (BBP) lideri Mustafa Destici, Zafer Partisi lideri Ümit Özdağ ve eski futbolcu Mesut Özil gibi isimler var.
Uzmanlar, kim seçilirse seçilsin Türkiye ile iyi ilişkiler kurmayı hedefleyeceğini belirtiyordu.

Ersin Tatar'ın 2020 cumhurbaşkanlığı seçimlerindeki rakibi Mustafa Akıncı, seçim sürecinde kendisinin ve ailesinin Milli İstihbarat Teşkilatı (MİT) aracılığıyla tehdit edildiğini ve adaylıktan çekilmesinin talep edildiğini iddia etmişti.
Türkiye'nin Lefkoşa Büyükelçiliği ve Ersin Tatar, Akıncı'nın iddialarını reddetmişti.
Tufan Erhurman elected Turkish Cypriot leader

Pro-reunification candidate Tufan Erhurman was on Sunday elected as Turkish Cypriot leader, unseating pro-two-state solution incumbent Ersin Tatar and winning a record number of votes in an unprecedented landslide victory.
Erhurman, a 55-year-old law professor who has served in the Turkish Cypriot legislature since 2013, is the leader of centre-left party the CTP – a position from which he will be required to resign in the coming days thanks to the Turkish Cypriots’ strict rules regarding political party affiliation for their leaders.
He will formally take up the role of Turkish Cypriot leader later this week, having won a massive 62.8 per cent of the vote to Tatar’s 35.8 per cent, and is expected to bring to an end a five-year period in which the Turkish Cypriot side refused to engage in negotiations to solve the Cyprus problem based on the previously agreed-upon federal model.
After the results were confirmed, he made his way to northern Nicosia’s Kizilbas Park, where he was greeted by a crowd of thousands waiting for him to make a victory speech.
“This election is not an election where some people win and others lose. The Turkish Cypriot people won tonight,” he said, before thanking those who had endorsed his campaign, as well as members of the ruling coalition parties, the UBP, the DP, and the YDP, who voted for him – a distinct possibility given his margin of victory.
“There are many wonderful things we can do together. When we are together, there is nothing we cannot do.”
Later in his speech, he promised that he will “never give up on this land” and “never give up on the children of this country”.
“I am proud to be the president of and one of the Turkish Cypriot people. I thank you for walking with me and for granting me this honour,” he said.

Earlier, as the results were becoming clear, he had given a press conference at his party the CTP’s headquarters in the Arabahmet neighbourhood of Nicosia’s old town.
“I want everyone to know this: there are no losers in this election. The Turkish Cypriot people won together,” he said, before pointing out that he was ahead in each of the north’s six districts, stressing that “this shows us that we are united and our will is united”.
“No district in our country has expressed a different will than this, and our brotherhood has achieved exactly what we promised, exactly what we desired, exactly what would make us the happiest. Our brotherhood has not been broken in any way.”
Erhurman’s election comes at a time of heightened activity on the Cyprus problem, and as such, a busy few weeks await him when he formally takes office.
He promised during the campaign that his first visit upon taking office would be to Ankara to meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other high-level Turkish officials – an important move on light of the fact that many in the highest echelons of Turkish politics have spent the last few weeks actively campaigning against him.
On the island, he is expected to meet new United Nations high representative Khassim Diagne, and later envoy Maria Angela Holguin, ahead of a third enlarged meeting on the Cyprus problem of the year, which is expected to take place in New York towards the end of the month.
That meeting, just as the previous two meetings attended by Tatar, will be attended by representatives of Cyprus’ two sides, its three guarantor powers, Greece, Turkey, and the United Kingdom, and the UN.

Trump administration terminates Citibank consent order prohibiting Armenian American discrimination

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has terminated a consent order that prohibited Citibank from discriminating against its Armenian American customers.
The agency, led by President Trump’s Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought, ended the consent order on Thursday, three years earlier than when it was set to expire.
The termination order signed by Vought said the bank had already paid more than $24.5 million in penalties and redress payments required by the agreement, and that it had taken steps to prevent future violations of the law. The order also waived any allegations of noncompliance.
The bank suspected that those applicants seeking new cards or higher limits would be more likely to commit fraud, with some employees referring to them as “Armenian bad guys” or the “Southern California Armenian Mafia,” according to the consent order.
The agency also also found that the bank took “corrective action” against employees who failed to identify and deny the applications. Employees were ordered not to tell customers the real reasons for their rejections or to discuss it in writing or on recorded lines.
The agency’s findings focused on Citigroup’s retail-services division, which houses the bank’s co-brand credit-card partnerships with such companies as Home Depot and Best Buy.
The bank did not admit or deny the CFPB’s findings. It declined comment Friday.
California Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff blasted the decision to end the consent agreement.
“Once again, this administration is putting big corporations ahead of the people,’” he said in a statement. “This choice, to take the side of the bank against the wronged in the face of the most plainly discriminatory conduct, will cast a long shadow over the community.”
The CFPB did not respond to an email inquiry for comment.
Glendale is home to about 15% of the Armenian American population in the U.S, with Los Angeles County having a population of about 250,000 of the ethnic group.
The settlement prompted litigation against the bank by hundreds of customers, some of whom said they not only had their credit card applications rejected but even had accounts closed after years with Citibank.
“Although this does not affect our pursuit of Citibank for its discrimination against Armenian Americans in our community, this is still a slap in the face to the Armenian Americans in Los Angeles County, many of whom support our president,” said Glendale attorney Tamar Arminak, whose firm filed a number of the ongoing lawsuits.
