Actually Michael Rubin is only an actor invited to provide sought-for anti-Turkish fodder to a so-called "human rights commission" already dead set against Türkiye.
Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), co-chair of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission is a well-known vocal critic of Türkiye on nearly all matters, including opposition to providing advanced U.S. military technology—such as F-16 and F-35 sales—to Türkiye and having championed House Resolution 1890, the “Turkey Diplomatic Realignment Act” seeking to reduce diplomatic ties and restrict military cooperation with Türkiye.
Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA), the other co-chair of the commission is also a well-known vocal critic of Türkiye, having called for U.S. recognition of the so-called "Armenian genocide" (naturally, representing Massachusetts the second largest location of Armenians in the U.S. after California) and has strongly criticized Türkiye's alleged "military aggression" in the South Caucasus—particularly concerning the independence of Artsakh (Dağlık Karabağ)—and has historically called for targeted sanctions against the leadership of both Türkiye and Azerbaijan for alleged human rights violations and war crimes.
Also included in the commission are three members of the Hellenic Caucus, Representatives Gus Bilirakis, Chris Pappas, and Dina Titus. The commission further includes such known Zionist luminaries as Representatives Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) who has described himself as a "committed Zionist", and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) who also self-identifies as a Zionist.
So the deck is stacked against Türkiye from the beginning and this hearing is nothing but yet another "dog and pony show", with Michael Rubin as the dog, in order to provide a basis for further anti-Turkiye legislative attempts in the U.S. Congress.
