guys, it's even weirder than that.

i _think_ i've got it figured out like this:

* the ozemail DNS is weird city & not properly installed.

* for 6 years they have been renewing our Domain Name and just adding
it to the bill, which they deducted from our credit card. now
nothing.

* because the DN is still in ozzie's DNS database, email & URL links
through the DN work for those logged into ozzie.

* however, people logged in through another ISP get the info from
their DNS that the name is inactive, and barf.

i can't say i'm too thrilled, whatever the answer turns out to be.

Who knows?

Ahhh, let me guess that you have a Business account? (the account id will
start with BLOG). If so, you technically belong to UUNET now and Ozemail
will deny any responsibility for you, despite still using Ozemail dial-ins,
userid's, servers etc.

Of course, Mr Milne tells us this will all change
soon...................(still waiting)

That would be typical.

So Ozemail aren't maintaining their own DNS records properly.

Find out who you technically belong to. If your bill says UUNET you can
forget getting any assistance from Ozemail despite the fact you're probably
still using Ozemail.

no, and it gets worse - they have now happily taken some money from
us, but it's now a question of discovering our NIC handle, so we can
redelegate, and some of their people don't seem too sure what a NIC
handle is.

oh, and to redelegate, we have to supply a pool of interconnected
DNSs, and the 2 ozzie DNSs link to the NZ DNS, but it doesn't link
back, so it aint't easy ...

ozzie did give me a number, which answered "UUNET service centre. how
may we help you?" and then disconnected. so at least they admit they
exist.

the saga continues ... (Norse God music, mainly kettledrums, in the
background).
