After 2 years of running an smtp server which sends up to ozemail, all
of a sudden I am recieving errors back on only some of the emails it
sends.

The error is >550 relaying mail to whoever.com.au is not allowed

And yet these are to people we send mail to all the time, even hotmail,
which is unlikely to be a prohibited destination.

It would appear to me that this is occuring always on
[servername].mail.mel.aone.net.au but maybe this is a coincidence.

It also appears that these servers think that my server is not on its
permitted list, therefore could be spamming...

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Mike

Hi Mike,
Are you logging in to an Ozemail POP, or someone elses? If you are
actually logging into OzEmail, it may be that for some strange reason,
your (dynamic) ip address is on their deny list, when it shouldn't be.

I'm not dead sure, but some mailers may also look at your return email
address and bounce anything that isn't local (you are using
vjray.com.au not ozemail.com.au). I got this impression from Chello
which bounced mail to my work account for a while and I think I was
using my OzEmail address not my Chello Address. I also noticed a
while back that the mangled address that I use for newsgroups started
bouncing, but may true address was fine.

Anyway, one way around it is to use smtp.ipass.ozemail.com.au This is
the server to use when you are using ipass international roaming,
(without which your email would bounce as it is perceived to come from
outside OzEmail) so it theoreticly shouldn't care what your IP or
email address are.

Hope that helps,
David
