Hello all

I am on the OzMegaSaver plan, using the Sydney dial in
I was just wondering if anyone can tell me, how many kb/sec on average that
I should be getting while downloading

I am using a 56K Modem, and usually get connected at 50,000 bps
I tend to average a transfer rate of about 4kb/sec - is this good ?
Over the last few days it has been around the 2.8kb/sec.

Any help on this matter would be appreciated
Thanks
AL

No its not.
The maximum you can on a 56k modem is 7KB/sec.
I constanly get 50667bps connects and the occasional 52000bps and
the maximum i seem to get is around the 5.5KB/sec on local sites
here is Aus.

Yes thats pretty well what i get Alan and connect at 50667 in about 95% of
cases. Some compessed d/loads may reach 6.5KB/s

Thanks guys for your input

I have been considering changing ISP's, purely in regards to speed, but I
haven't heard many good things about any of the others, that would convince
me to change ISP's.

A friend of mine was on Telstra Bigpond on their equivalent plan to the
OzMegaSaver (Big 150..I think) and he was getting engaged signals quite
often.

Just another question - In your opinion how does OzEmail compare to other
ISP's (speed, price etc..) ?

Thanks again
AL

I'm on a similar set up in the Orana Region. Somewhat similar results
except over the last week data rate has averaged 1.5

Lot of congestion lately.

i had thought that it was congestion causing my similar data rates, either
that or its a faulty modem, sometime redialing will fix it. other times its
useless, especially when school is on and the kids get home in the
afternoon and start connection to the web, then it becomes useless, shows
that ozemail is not providing enough bandwidth to meet peak demand.

after some problems my ADSL socket will be in soon and i can ditch this
crappy slow service for some real speed and a constant connection. it will
be nice to be able to use streaming audio sites again, cant on ozemail as
the data rate is to bursty and intermittent, even australian sites like the
ABC and so on are difficult. it would be really nice if ozemail had not
decided to squeeze the domestic customers for all they are worth and cut
back on bandwidth, they might have been able to hold onto those 100,000
customers who have left in the last 6 months. you know what they say, treat
people like shit and they will leave.

I suggest BPA or Optus cable. Better speed and no dial up grief.
