IFAPA Board Members:

Attached is the final packet of information and forms to apply as a student volunteer with the international volunteer program (IVP) at ISAPA 2019. Rosa from Turkey, one of our student representatives who has served as a volunteer in previous ISAPAs, did a wonderful job of creating these documents! Please share with your graduate students and distribute to professors in your regions who who work with graduate students. Thank you!

Hello again,

What we have done in ISAPA 2013 is we asked to applicants;

-They had to apply with a research study. It was a "must", either as poster or oral presentation,

-A CV, with educational background and studies in APA field,

-A motivation letter, why s/he wants to participate to IVP,

-And we asked them to deposit 150 Dollars, and after the symposium we paid them back. It was kinda guarantie not to let people just apply and after the selection and everything is done, just disappear!

-We asked them to come earlier, couple of days before symposium starts, and when they arrived we start working all together. Also I asked them to leave couple of days after the symposium (in case of need a help about organizing the attendees' leave too. Because I organized the IVP team such Transportation, Technical support, Registration etc. So, if there are attendees leaving next couple of days, IVP team can be needed),

-After deviding them again voluntairely into sub-groups(transportation, etc.) there were t-shirts for each sub-groups with different colours and also written on the back such "transportation" etc. For that reason we asked them about t-shirt size. And we had dress code, such white short/trousers/skirt/etc(whatever s/he would like, but white) and then the t-shirt on top that we provided,

-We also had some volunteers for social activities. We had pilates, morning walkings, Turkish traditional dance every morning between 7:00-7:45 during the symposium. Each activity had its own leader and every morning we gave this oportunity to participants to start the day active :) For those volunteers we didnt ask a research study as a must, but we asked them if they have a background with people with disabilities, and also a specific skill/education to contribute with(in our case I asked for pilates, step-aerobic, dance, and a coaching student who has knowledge about streching-injuries, so nobody will get injured.). There were one dance coach (3rd year Coaching student), pilates&step-aerobic coach (10 years Goalball Referee and coach), and a person who leads the group for walking tour (a 4th year Coaching student).

These were the things I concidered for IVP-2013. And I guess it worked well because ISAPA Istanbul left a good memory and a big smile on people's face =)

Wish a very productive and a smiling week to all.
Rosa

I would be happy to volunteer to help during the conference.  I can also think of a few other students who would probably be interested in volunteering as well.

I think maybe sending a recruitment email to APA faculty to distribute to students might be the best start. As for application materials, I think something as simple as a cover letter and CV would work. I know that there may be a language barrier, but I'm not sure that a longer application process would help much with that.

Anyway, that's all I've got. Talk more soon, everyone!

Hi everyone:

Sorry I have not communicated more with you these past several months. We have been gearing up for ISAPA 2019 (http://isapa2019.org), and we would like to start thinking about a student volunteer program. Student volunteers would help during the symposium, and in return we would waive registration fees and pay for a dormitory room during their stay at the symposium. I think we would need approximately 10 volunteers, and ideally we could get a nice mix from around the world. Below is an inquiry from a student from the European Masters program, and I certainly would want to include those students. Rosa, I know you volunteered in the past, and I was hoping you would serve as the lead volunteer and help with training and overall organization.

Let me know if you have any questions at this point. We need to figure out ways to communicate with and recruit student volunteers.

Yes, we will have a student volunteer program at ISAPA 2019. I will get more information out by mid-December. We will waive registration fee and pay for a share room in the dormitory here at our University. Most food would be paid for as well. You would need to be here for training the day before the conference actually starts (you would need to be here June 12), and then you would stay through the conference, which ends June 18.

Please let your friends with EMAPA know about this, and email me if you don’t hear from me by December 15.

Here is our website: http://isapa2019.org
