An intensive hands-on short course that provides participants with training in Archaeological Field Methods by joining on-site excavations in metropolitan Adelaide.

Who should attend?
This short course is designed for practitioners who wish to gain a deeper knowledge and hands-on experience in Archaeological Field Methods. This course will be of interest to students of archaeology, anthropology, history, geography, conservation, environmental management, and heritage, as well as vocational archaeologists, archaeology professionals, and cultural resource management professionals.
Participants are required to meet Flinders University COVID19 Field Trip protocols.
Course content
This topic provides students with direct, practical experience in a variety of advanced archaeological field methods. Digital technologies and geophysical techniques are a focus within this topic. The student will attend a combination of workshops, as well as receive practical hands-on training. The learning focus is on students acquiring the skills they will require to gain employment in field based archaeology.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this short course participants will be expected to be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the major elements of field based archaeological research;
2. Demonstrate an awareness of the range of surveying and geophysical techniques available, and demonstrate competency in basic archaeological surveying techniques;
3. Demonstrate an awareness of the complexity of archaeology report writing, basic report writing skills and the ability to critique archaeological field and survey reports.
Assessment
The assessment components for this course include; participation requirements, a quiz exercise, and a site report.
Credit
Upon successful completion of this short course, all participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement which states that this short course is equivalent to completion of the Flinders University topic ARCH8801.
By completing this short course participants may be eligible to negotiate credit at another tertiary institution.

Facilitators
This short course will be facilitated by Dr Martin Polkinghorne with Dr Daryl Wesley and special guest teachers from Flinders University’s discipline of Archaeology.
