Think I'll just stick to tech news in the future.
For those who are interested in this type of thing, NSW Office of Environment & Heritage has released an iPhone app for the AHIMS Aboriginal site register. Essentially, you are able to create your preliminary site cards in the field as soon as you identify a site. You will need an AHIMS account in order to use it.
Cheers

Attention AHIMS clients registered as Heritage Professionals
This is a courtesy email to inform AHIMS
clients registered as Heritage Professionals about the release of the new Site
Recording iPhone App.
The AHIMS site recording iPhone app was
developed by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage in order to make site
recording easier and more consistent. The
app generates site cards automatically for the recorders and allows users to
export data to be used in desktop mapping systems. It is also expected that the
site recording app will reduce the amount of
time it takes to accession sites onto the AHIMS database and reduce data entry
errors.
The iPhone app can be used by
cultural heritage professionals, Aboriginal communities and relevant staff from
OEH.
The
application is now ready for free download https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ahims-site-recording/id598130474?ls=1&mt=8
from the app store. Prior to using the AHIMS site recording iPhone app users must
be registered in AHIMS. Please contact ah...@environment.nsw.gov.au to
obtain your registration details if you are interested in using the AHIMS
site recording app.
The key features of the site recording app are:
- Allows users to record new sites, update existing sites and record impacts to sites.
- Keeps recorder info to avoid having to re-enter this information with every recording
-
Users enter site data
easily with the help of validations that make sure the information is complete.
-
Users can view
previous site recordings (saved in the phone) in a map interface.
-
Users can submit
sites to the AHIMS quarantine station and obtain site IDs automatically once
the sites are approved
-
Users can manage site
recordings submissions from the Site Quarantine Station to automatically obtain
site cards in PDF format or export site data as Text.
-
Users can import site
data obtained from AHIMS web services (excel reports of extensive searches) to
use in the phone for editing or checking purposes

We trust that you will like using the app in the field and will enjoy the benefits of easier and more consistent site recording. We’ll be happy to receive your feedback at ah...@environment.nsw.gov.au
