In cases where the VM is saved and closed (without shutting down), the IP address doesn't seem to be valid upon replaying the VM (without boot sequence).

See attached.

There should probably be a menu-item Network > Renew IP, which resets the IP of the VM.

Also wondering how the VM behaves incase the host is itself a DHCP client, and it's IP-addr changes.

Thanks
Ashant

Depends on the configuration of your VM player:
You can use it either in bridged mode or NAT. In bridged mode, the VM
appliance will get the IP from your DHCP server (usually your router)
while as in NAT mode it gets the IP from your host machine. AFAIK, I
got the same IP again and again in NAT mode. Also, it will work with
NAT even if you're not connected to the router.

Hi,

NAT will most likely not work as you cannot access the VM from the
host (=accessing the sites on the VM), thus I said to use bridged
networking for the VM.
A DHCP service does of course not run on the VM, as the bridged VM
will receive its IP from the network as any other host does.

For normal, you should always get -as long as you don't pause for too
long- the same IP from the DHCP server as it will always try to assign
the previous IP again to any MAC appearing on the net. Doesn't matter
anyway as the VM software will rewrite all oxid configurations on
boot.

In the case Ashant pointed out, most likely the DHCP timeout occurred.
Sure, it's possible to add a new menu item for rescanning. But tried
to keep the interface as simple as possible, and the case pointed out
is not a normal use case. Btw, this should include restarting dhclient
on the VM, I don't know how it behaves when the VM comes up again from
this kind of "sleep".

For "Also wondering how the VM behaves incase the host is itself a
DHCP client, and it's IP-addr changes." ... hm, I don't know what you
mean by this, for sure normally the host is a normal DHCP client, but
that doesn't matter in any way, they're fully unrelated in bridged
mode, this will just work.
