Dear All,

 

Unfortunately, the decision has been made to close the East Oxford Astroturf on Union Street until further notice. Apologies for any inconvenience caused by this closure.

 

This facility has had to be closed due to the damage and further deterioration of the all-weather surface. The size of the holes and tears in the surface mean it is now requires complete refurbishment, rather than just patching, as it poses an unacceptable risk of injury to users.

 

We are currently investigating potential sources of funding to undertake the necessary repair work and will provide an update as soon as there is any progress.

 

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused by the closure of this facility and be assured we are doing all we can to reopen it as soon as possible.

 

Posters will also be displayed at the facility with information about this closure and full contact details for the Parks service.

Dear all, please email cllr...@oxford.gov.uk, the council rep for parks and leisure. Short email is fine, but a weight of email might get noticed (hat tip to Tim for the contact info).

Make the text your own ideally, but here’s some sample text to play with:

This pitch has been used for decades. With 24 hrs notice it has been closed. Facilities like this are important for community well-being and health. Public sporting spaces need protecting and investing in! ... they shouldn't be closed with zero notice after decades of usage…

One of our players has had a quote at £11,000 roughly for resurfacing. If the pitch were used just twice a night - and it is used more - five nights a week, our fees would cover this cost every 6-7 months. Add to that the adjoining school usage and this repair is a complete no brainer.
