Hey everyone!
This week's talk will be radically different from last weeks!
Amon Zero on The Politics of the FutureThursday 4th Week 7pm
FREE OF CHARGE
Saskatchewan Room, Exeter College, Turl Street.
"Futurism
(including its many variants, such as Transhumanism and
Singularitarianism) tends to hold activism as somewhat incidental, and
political activism doubly so. Although understandable, such an attitude
leads to a potentially dangerous Inevitablism, where it is assumed
that positive outcomes will prevail “automagically”. I will discuss
various forms of potential political activism relevant to Futurism, the
relationship between traditional Left/Right politics and possible new
paradigms, notable and sometimes unfortunate examples of pro-technology
and proto-transhumanist politics in the past (such as the Italian
Futurist Party of the 1920s and aspects of 1960s counterculture), and
relevance to contemporary political struggles such as the Occupy
movement and Anonymous. "
This talk is free, and but at future talks we'll have to start asking for a small donation; as such, exciting life membership will be on sale this thursday, for just £10 ! You should join, because it's a great thing to do.
