Two events coming up soon: Philip Moriarty and Amon Zero. Please note that Philip Moriarty is on Monday (TODAY!), rather than the usual Thursday!

Upcoming Events

Philip Moriarty on Nanofactories
Monday of 3rd week. 7pm. TODAY

Saskatchewan Room, Exeter College, Turl Street

"Is the idea of a desktop device capable of assembling macroscopic objects atom-by-atom an unrealistic dream or a serious possibility? Philip Moriarty will be addressing this issue head-on, discussing the idea as originally proposed by K. Eric Drexler in the 1980s in the context of recent work in nanoscale physics."

Amon Zero on The Politics of the Future
Thursday of 3rd week. 7pm
Saskatchewan Room, Exeter College, Turl Street
"I will discuss various forms of potential political activism relevant to Futurism, the relationship between traditional Left/Right politics and possible new paradigms, notable and sometimes unfortunate examples of pro-technology and proto-transhumanist politics in the past (such as the Italian Futurist Party of the 1920s and aspects of 1960s counterculture), and relevance to contemporary political struggles such as the Occupy movement and Anonymous. "

Also, the rationality seminars are continuing...

Rationality Seminar; Cognitive Frameworks
Sunday 5th (Beginning of 4rd week). 6pm.
Exeter College; meet at Porter's Lodge
Alex and I periodically run a series of discussion seminars based around improving instrumental and epistemic rationality; thinking and acting more optimally.
