Hey group,

I was wondering how you have thanked the PIs that you interviewed,
especially those that you did not choose as your NIH-OxCam mentors.

Did you send them a thank you card, call them, or email them? How did
you tell them that you will not choose them as your mentors? I want to
sincerely thank them for their time and let them know that I will not
be working in their labs without offending them. Do you have any
suggestions?

I just emailed them thanking them for their time and saying that while
I was impressed with the lab, it wasn't the best fit for me at this
time due to not being able to find a good collaboration on the other
end, or it wasn't quite what I wanted to do, etc. I don't think
there's any need to send a card. I did this for both NIH and
Cambridge prospective mentors. I think the main thing is to tell them
promptly by whatever method - it's not nice to leave them wondering,
"What ever happened to that student?"
