Hi

I had several questions.

(1). For the Oxford application, it asks for the type of our
bachelor's degree. If you are in the class of 2010 and doing an
honor's project, would your degree be a "first class honours" ?

(2). After you get accepted to Oxford etc, I believe you need a
student visa. How long does it take to process? Does it require proof
of air tickets?

(3). For students who don't drink, how have their Oxford experiences
been? Additionally, does anyone know of any articles etc about life at
Oxford (besides its website)---how to make the best of our experiences
there. I still feel as if there is so much I don't know about Oxford
and what it has to offer in terms of life beyond academics and in
labs, even after reading up a lot on the net.

THANKS for all your help!!!!!

1. In short, no, first class honours has a very specific meaning.  Our degrees don't directly translate to that system.

2. Mine didn't take long (couple weeks at most), but I had someone fasttracking it at the consulate.  Also, I think a new system is now in place so you'll have to do more and it will take a bit longer (the university international student office should advise on this - I'd ask them).  For 'sensitive' subjects (most of us it seems), you'll need to fill some forms and get fingerprinted for a kind of minor background check under the ATAS scheme.

3. I don't drink and I have a great time.  Can't readily think of any such articles...

Best of luck,
G
