Hello All,

This is a post regarding short term housing in Bethesda.
Unfortunately, I was unable to land a spot in the housing offered by
the OITE for NIH/OxCam students. As of now, I don't know whether I
will be in Bethesda or Cambridge for my first year of study, so I am
wondering: what other opportunities are out there for short term
housing around the NIH? Do you think I will be able to find a place
to stay in Bethesda for a couple of months while I get my project
figured out, then be free to move to the UK if necessary? Thanks to
all who respond on these forums. You know what it feels like to be a
new student in this program!

Hey Alex,

Great question. So I don't know if you are aware that there are two houses owned by the FAES that are set aside for OxCam students. They are just outside the NIH campus, so about a 5-10 min walk into the lab. The temporary rooms are $50/week for up to two months I think (though the price might be going up this next year). To find out about availability, you can email Carline Coote cco...@mail.nih.gov and just mention you are in the OxCam program and looking for temp housing during whatever dates (Aug-Oct 2009??). If there isn't a room available there, try looking on Craigslist for Washington DC metropolitan area, there might be summer sublets listed there. Regardless, the program should assure you have housing during the proposal writing process (first two months) but after that you have to find your own housing...
Just to double check, is the OITE housing you mentioned the apartments on Battery Lane? Becuase they usually have lots of space there for GPP students...

Best,

Lydia
