In the lab

I had a question,

It is important for me to choose a lab in which there are people
(PRA's or PI's) that are able to help me if I run into some
difficulties with my project. Typically for those of you who are in
the program, does this seem like the type of lab atmosphere you have
experienced, or is it more of a "on your own" type of deal? Especially
with no general coursework, I felt that this is highly important to
developing into a great scientist.
