Hi all,

Ive got a set of dates from a post med possible retting pit. I have two dates one from each of the first two fills, and then 7 samples were taken from an organic rich layer that possibly marks the end of us of the pit. I have put them together in a sequence reflecting their stratigraphic relationship. However, I wasnt sure whether to 'Combine' the samples from the single context on the assumption that they are broadly contemporary. They are all very small diameter twigs. In the code below I have put them together as a Phase instead, which I think might be more appropriate.

The modelled dates do seem to indicate a much stronger 17th-18th century signature, which aligns well with some of the information weve been given from the botanical specialist ont he retting pit theory.

I just want to be sure I've built the model correctly.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris,

Yes, this looks sensible. I don’t think you know that the samples from the upper layer actually come for one event rather than a period of time (be it probably rather short), so I think the phase model is probably more appropriate here.

Best wishes,

Alex
