To anyone who can help.  I have been trying to upload dates from a coring sequence to create 2 models-  a P sequence and a SUM probability sequence.  How do I start?  I have selected P sequence in Insert and I have coded the dates (with boundaries) but when I run the sequence the output is not right and comes out as R dates rather than a P sequence.  I have done something wrong.  How should I start?

Hi,

Can you post an example of the two models you are trying?  I'm not sure what you mean by a 'SUM probability sequence'

Hi Ray,

I can get so far, - which is insert, models, p sequence, selecting the relevant outliers etc, then I cant remember how to input the datasets into the sequence (I have basic programming language) - or how to get a z value into that sequence - the box for top and bottom - I have tried to use but this does not create a plot of dates.  I tried to manually code the sequence in with commands, but I must have done something wrong as OxCal did not like it at all and I ended up with strange plots with odd R dates.   Hope anyone can help,

Katy

Hi Katy,

Once you have created your model, before running it, click view - List - Save to save what you have created.  Then View - Code so that you can highlight and copy the code from the yellow window and paste it into the e-mail.  Perhaps then we can see where things are going awry?

regards

Ray

To set up a simple P_Sequence get your dates into four columns in a spreadsheet with the dates at the top of the sequence first. The columns should be:

Labcode or label
Radiocarbon date
Radiocarbon error
z value

Then use:

Tools > Models > Deposition models

Paste your data from the spreadsheet into the yellow box.

Select Poisson deposition

Press the [>>] button.

This should create your model. Then do [File > Run] to run it.

If you want outlier analysis as well then put 0.05 in the Outlier prob box and select the 'General' outlier model before pressing [>>].

Best wishes

Christopher
