Please find the details for the upcoming numismatics lecture series, "The View from the Margins: Byzantine Literature of the Provinces (9th to 13th century)", by dr. Stratis Papaioannou below.

The lectures are open to all and will run on Wednesdays from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM


Please note the change of venue following the introductory lecture.

Venues:

  • 28 April: The Schwarzman Centre, 30.020, Seminar Room.
  • All other lectures: Rector’s Drawing Room, Exeter College

Topics: 

  • Syro-Palestine, Constantinople, Italy I: Saints at the Limits 
  • Syro-Palestine, Constantinople, Italy II: Rite and Sacred Song 
  • Monastic Networks: Mt. Athos and Mar Saba 
  • Provincial Portraits: Cappadocia, Antioch, Paphos, and Trebizond 
  • The “Western” Frontier: Sicily, Southern Italy, and Learned Literature
