For those who may have missed it, OUBs would like to share with you the details of our upcoming Graduate Conference:
Entitled “Byzantium and its environment” the conference will run from the 1st-2nd March here in Oxford, as well as online via Zoom. The focus will be on natural and environmental history throughout the Late Antique and Byzantine period.

Index of Medieval Art: Database Training Session on March 25, 2025
The Index will be holding a new online training session for anyone interested in learning more about the database! It will take place via Zoom on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 from 12:00 – 1:00 pm EST.
This session, led by Index specialists Maria Alessia Rossi and Jessica Savage, will demonstrate how the database can be used with advanced search options, filters, and browse tools to locate works of medieval art. There will be a Q&A period at the end of the session, so please bring any questions you might have about your research!

Ottoman Summer Program (OTSP) (ANAMED)
Organized by Koç University Research Center for Anatolian
Civilizations (ANAMED), this five-week intensive in-person summer program aims
to develop students' reading and comprehension skills and earn them expertise
in a variety of Ottoman sources, including archival documents, manuscripts, and
epigraphic material. The material will present a wide array of content and
narrative types.
The program is designed to accommodate the needs of participants entering with
different levels of Ottoman literacy. Persian, Arabic, and modern Turkish
classes complement Ottoman classes.

Roundtable Discussion: The Routledge Handbook of Byzantine Visual Culture in the Danube Regions
Please join us for a virtual roundtable discussion on The Routledge Handbook of Byzantine Visual Culture in the Danube Regions, 1300–1600 (Routledge, 2024) on 26 February 2025 from 12:00 – 1:30 EST. "Knowing me, knowing you: The Practices, Discourses, and Materiality of Intimacy in Byzantium." - Association des étudiants du monde byzantin
The Association des étudiants du monde byzantin is delighted to announce that the Sixteenth International Meeting of Early-Career Byzantinists will take place on 3-4 October 2025. The focus for this year is a subject that will, we are sure, be close to many of your hearts: "Knowing me, knowing you: The Practices, Discourses, and Materiality of Intimacy in Byzantium." The call for papers is available on our website here.
Presentations should last about 20 minutes and may be given either in English or in French. Proposals (250 to 300 words) accompanied by a short biographical note including the author’s current institution, level of study (Masters, PhD, postdoctoral), and subject of research should be sent to aemb....@gmail.com by the 31st of March 2025. The Meeting will be held in person, in Paris, on the 3rd and 4th of October 2025. The AEMB may be able to cover travel costs for presenters who are unable to receive funding from their home institution. Successful applicants must join the AEMB.
3. JOBS AND SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Visiting Assistant Professor of Medieval History, Kenyon College
Kenyon College, a highly selective, nationally-ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor in Medieval History beginning July 1, 2025. The successful candidate will teach both survey and seminar-level courses in medieval history in Europe and the broader Mediterranean world. We are seeking candidates whose research and teaching feature a global approach to studying medieval history. The visitor will also benefit from Kenyon students’ passionate interest in the humanities and strengthen their credentials with a year of teaching at Kenyon. Candidates should have a record of excellent teaching and a Ph.D. in hand or be near completion by the beginning of the appointment.

graduate transcript, and contact information for three professional references.
Candidates advancing to the interview stage will be asked to submit a statement
of teaching philosophy that addresses the pedagogical inclusion of a diverse
student population and an unofficial graduate school transcript.
