A mission statement regarding who we are, where we are going.....not
perfect, first attempt.

"Occupy Wall Street is an organically formed collective protest which
stands united against economic and social injustice.

Through peaceful, civil disobedience we exercise our rights as
Americans under the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence,
to fight against corporate and political greed and to stand up for
what we, the 99%, consider our moral obligations under the same such
documents"*.

(Below is simply the first amendment and Declaration of Independence
which backs OWS's stance)

*The first amendment clearly states: Congress shall make no law
respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free
exercise there-of, or abridging the freedom
of speech, or of the Press, or the right of the people peaceably to
assemble, and to petition Government for a redress of grievances.
The Declaration of Independence states:…."All men (women) are created
equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable
Rights,
that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That
to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among men( women)
their just
powers from the consent of the governed-That whenever any form of
Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the
People
to alter or to abolish it and to institute new Government, laying its'
foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form,
as to them
shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence,
indeed will dictate that Governments long established should not be
changed for light
and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown that
mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than
to right
themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But
when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the
same Object
evinces a design to reduce them to under absolute Despotism, it is
their right , it is their duty, to throw off such Government and to
provide new Guards for for their
future securities…."

Constitution: is an agreement that sets in place a system of
fundamental principles for the government of rational and social
beings. (Websters)

Can we just adopt the Founding Documents by reference?

Hi there,

As a mission statement it doesn't seem to have an end goal - unless
the end goal is simply to exercise rights.

I think it might be helpful to say something like:

that the group is 'seeking reform' of financial & political systems
through the exercise of our 1st Amendment rights.

A mission is a very big, long-term end-result or achievement. There
may be objectives, goals, strategies, executions and tactics all used
to achieve the mission, but the mission is the biggest and most
important thing to be accomplished.

Mission statements are usually the non-financial achievement that a
CEO either develops for his company or is hired to achieve. The
mission is a what versus a how, and is very similar to a vision
statement in that it has a future orientation.
