Ummm,
'Landlords' were offering acts of kindness, generosity, belief and good faith. In good faith, all of them.
I would offer personally, and people, 'landlords' continue to offer. They believe in us.
They are strong supporters of the/our movement to point of willingness to risk it personally, interms of rep, finance and piece of mind and more..
We need meet and be more mindful of this, and so much more, always. Grateful actually, for it ALL, including shows of our global respect, recognition, responsibility, support and admiration. With much and greater doses of humility always. From that perspective as opposed to bad children that need rules.
More, I believe rather than having meetings discussing more terms and conditions, doubt to place upon ourselves in doing right, these meetings should possibly be used to discuss what we should be doing out of or for reason of shear gratitude and good intent and reason. God forbid our love for OWS. Anything other than this only tarnishes our own internal means of assuming our inner kindness, fairness and willingness to act in good faith and to many (me at least), these meetings are becoming insulting.
I assume, or would like to assume behavior that reflects gratitude and the respect for the resources that were provided us by oceans of donations, again, freely given in good faith. Do we really need to have meetings which make rules for paying rent with money that was given to us for just that, among many other things??
It is a slight shift in thinking and working that could produce monumental results starting here and spreading infectiously thru other areas of this OWS thing.
Just sayin.
i can't attend this, but my only comment is that i am surprised people have actually allowed OWS to use their space WITHOUT PAYING IN ADVANCE. as committed as i am to the movement, if i were a landlord i would NEVER do so w/o asking a deposit and a few weeks in advance.
so, to save ourselves the grief, please let's make sure OWS actually pays in advance (and for multiple weeks) any space we may rent. it not only would force us to commit to the space more, but it would then give us time to put in place any system of community relations, security/de-escalation and/or maintenance we many need to keep our end of the business/rental bargain.
in solidarity,
liza

Hello OWS and SC,Just a suggestion for Spokes Council and OWS in the future. Please do not refuse to pass a proposals to pay the rent (or other things) for trivial or nonsensical reasons while the landlord is standing in the room. Or even better, hold the process hostage by relating non related issues to bea r at times of proposal for rent or other immediate OWS fiduciary responsibilities.Kinda like 'some' members of the US Senate have for important pieces of time critical legislation. Umm yeah. Debt ceiling crisis etc etc. I have some potential spaces (nothing concrete yet) in Lower Manhattan. Possible spaces, but with people (real people) who I have developed quasi and growing valued relationships. People and organizations whom I both like as people and agree with in cause. So call me selfish and respectful.BUT, I am highly concerned that we will jeopardize the space OR my/our growing community relationships not by not paying our rent on time or really do something that puts our collective integrity on the line by using coercive legislative/political tactics similar to c hoices we have made in the past. Our potential Landlords are talking to our previous Landlords people!Soooo, when faced with taking care of our responsibilities, to the people, places and things with whom we have developed a fiduciary relationship, it cannot be something that we USE to drive our WG or individual agendas by holding up process a.k.a. holding our collective needs hostage. I will NOT be put in a position to do that again. So sadly, and this is not a Jason holding something hostage moment, just me trying to preempt another self inflicted assault on our collected integrity by unscrupulous individuals who don't know how to separate principles from personalities..Thats just me... For each his own, it really HURTS me to say, in our growing "solidarity'??Solid..... On Fri, Feb 3, 2012 at 8:54 AM, Christina Daniel <christin...@gmail.com> wrote:
