Club Meetings

We encourage all members, family and new students to attend the monthly club meetings to share experiences, laughs, and ideas for future dives, as well as the state of the club. We meet at 7:00, the 2nd Tuesday of every month.  Our next meeting will be Tuesday, May 13th.  All are welcome to attend.

Officers Election

The ODC Officers Election for 2014 was held at the April 8th meeting.  The elected officers are listed above.  They will be sworn in for a 1 year term at the May 13th meeting.  Please come and show your support for your elected ODC officers.

VIP/Hydro Inspections

The annual Tank VIP inspections are over.  Thanks to all those who've braved the unusual winter weather and helped.  If you still have a tank that needs a 2014 VIP inspection, you will need to have this done before it can be refilled.  Please do not bring your tank to a Thursday pump night expecting that it can be inspected and/or filled if it has not had it's 2014 VIP.  The Mobile Hydro tester will be at the club house April 29th performing Hydrostatic tests on the tanks that have been left at the club house, and requiring their 5 year inspection.  Hopefully, we will get the Hydro bill soon and will be able to communicate the price for the test.  If you know that you have a tank being tested, please watch out for a communication from me about your bill.

Waseca High School Pool Sweeping

We had a lot of help sweeping the Waseca High School pool last month.  I think we had 10 people.  Because of the sheer volume of particulate matter, we wound up sweeping the deep end twice.  Even then, the water was milky white.  Chuck was there taking pictures (as well as sweeping), but I don't have any that I can include in the newsletter.

BSA Discover Scuba

Thanks to all those who helped with the Boy Scouts Discover Scuba on April 16th.  I haven't heard how many students showed up, or how much help we had.  I'm sure we'll discuss it at the next meeting.

Owatonna Dive Club Banquet

The Owatonna Dive Club banquet was held on April 12th. Again we had a terrific turnout with great food, prizes, stories from the past, plans for the future, and as always a family atmosphere that is the ODC trademark.

Special thanks go out to Chuck Morris for his slide show and videos from diving with the Manatee's

Thanks also to Ken Merryman for his presentation on his search for ship wrecks on the Great Lakes..

Jeff Kirchner and his wife Pam for the beautiful centerpieces at the banquet. Wonderful job!

Tom Stephan for doing an exceptional job as our Master of Ceremonies, and purchasing all of the door prizes. Thanks Tom!

And to all who helped set up, prepare food, and clean!

There were also awards as follows:

Outstanding First Year Diver

Diver of the Year

Seahorse Award

RJ Kniefel and Don Anderson

Denny Javens

Bob Kierski

Congratulations to all award winners on a job well done!

Owatonna Junior High Pool Sweeping

The Junior High pool has only been in operation for less than a month.  We'll know after Wednesday if it needs to be swept.  I'll send out a note if we're going to be sweeping this month.

Extra Skills Night

ODC will be holding what we're calling "Extra Skills Night" this Wednesday (April 30th) at the Owatonna Junior High Pool.  This will give students an opportunity to be exposed to and practice some skills they normally wouldn't get during the usual Open Water pool sessions.  We will have several floats and flags they can practice pulling… and getting tangled in.  Jim Z. will bring the boat transom so that students can practice that deep water entry.  John C.  is also going to be demonstrating 7 deep water entry's.  We will be simulating low-viz conditions.  Students can win an ODC tee shirt in the golf ball hunt.  While all 2013/2014 students are encouraged to come, all ODC divers are welcome to participate as well.

Open Water Checkout (Big Blue)

Our annual Open Water Checkout weekend is tentatively planned for May 16th – 18th.  We currently have only one student that can make this date.  We are looking at moving the weekend to June to accommodate more students.  I will send out more information as it becomes available.
