phones ?

Hi,

of course this is a great idea and we are also aware of this feature
request, but as it is not a trivial task to implement such a feature
we usually prefer to add other features first (like pregnancy support,
coverline in graph, more fertility awareness algorithms, etc.) which
are useful on a single phone too.
However, we are open to change feature priorities, so we encourage all
users to vote for this (or other feature) if they also think that this
feature should be implemented next ;)

Ian / OvuView

Two phones support is a very good idea. Looking forward to its soon
implementation.

+1 to the topic.

I started using this app when I came off of birth control. When I told my husband about it, he immediately asked if he could have it on his phone to keep up with where I was too.

The idea gets my vote!

I think it would be a good enticement for anyone on the fence about going to the pro version. Even if we had to have a pro version for the second phone, I would do it.

Question for the public: would you be interested in fully featured OvuView web application? Optimized both for mobile layout (iPhone + Android). Would you pay a subscription fee for such an app? The benefits are:

- concurrent/synchronized access to data accross multiple devices
- no more lost data
- access from both regular PC/browser and mobile/tablet
- if it is well written you won't recognize the difference between native and non-native (HTML5) app

The drawbacks are:
- limited offline use

I'd certainly be interested, since I enter all the data on my smartphone and my wife doesn't own one. A web app would give her the ability to see her charts at her leisure. I don't know if she'd be willing to pay a subscription fee, though. A one-time purchasing fee might be easier to convince her to pay.

Synchronized with multiple devices is a BIG plus. However if internet access is only needed for synchronization and it is fully functioning on the mobile/tablet then all is good otherwise limited offline use is a killer.

PC/browser access is not necessary.

Also paying a subscription fee is not appealing, I have enough "bills" every month. A one-time fee or if you must a small NOT automatic yearly subscription that covers all devices.

Glad your looking into multiple device synchronization, looking forward to a solution.

I think the advanced functionality (device sharing and web access) can be very useful, but may not be for everyone. You could have an "ala carte" fee structure, so people could buy the parts they need: Basic Free, Basic Paid (no ads), Paid w/ multi-device, Paid w/ internet access, Paid w/ multi-device and internet access. You get the idea.

About the timing of the fees, that could also have options. Some people may want to pay by the month and some may want to renew annually, depending on their goal for using the app (avoid pregnancy or get pregnant, or just track their cycles).

I think this is a great app, and deserves to be upgraded!

Question: to the people who think sync should be bought rather than subscribed to: how does the ongoing costs of the sync server get paid for?

A one off fee isn't a sustainable business model for a service with ongoing costs that increase with more users. An app will still work for existing users without maintenance but a server that isn't paid for every year doesn't keep running.

Really hope there will be a solution which keeps the app stand alone and without subscription... I believe this app gains for more in new users & market share with this feature and perhaps an added (pro-shared) upgrade level than pushing a separate website and subscription. Has a cloud-based data store for syncing been considered (with primary and guest user access accounts)? The app could poll the cloud server at start-up to check for latest data and at set intervals to assure a current data set on the server. I have a grocery list app that does something similar:  http://www.mightygrocery.com/shopping-list-app-users-guide/cloud-sync-list-and-backup/ (sorry if link is not allowed - not endorsing, just sharing an idea by way of an example). Although they limit permissions for the guest, I would think all permissions could be configured by the developer based on what they want to achieve for the user(s).

Point taken... I'll be first to acknowledge I have no perspective on either the initial or incremental service costs associated with data servers used for this purpose. In formulating the 'how much' and 'in what form' to charge equation for such a feature, such operating costs are potentially more tangible while other information seemingly essential to determining a price for the user, such as current interest and projected growth of 'sync seeking' users is less tangible.

Call it being conditioned by this vast market of free slick and useful apps wherein I think most are inclined to kick-in a donation to remove ads or pay a nominal upgrade fee for a few more features with the app that has proven its quality, is enjoyable and indespensible. I'm just naturally going to weigh the cost/benefit more carefully however with an ongoing subscription charge . I'm sure it psychological... regardless of how small a fee it may be, it feels 'budgetary', like the phone plan, or the utilities, or the mortgage.

Perhaps there's another approach altogether... let users handle their own server needs. I'm no developer, just strangely inquisitive, but might one approach be to allow integration for the data files with any number of available cloud file sync solutions available on Google Play? Is there some potential in the recently updated Google Drive API? Users have up to 5gb of free storage - that's a bunch of OvuView data!

What do you mean by limited offline use? I really don't like the idea that the app could be "notsogood" offline...

And I totally agree with freegrace4's idea.

But I really think that using a "cloud" would be more interesting...

Steve,

synchronization can be done:
A) actively - when data is changed on device A, device B will be
automatically notified/updated
B) by polling - each device polls the server for changes in every
hour/minute/etc.

By using the the free cloud storage services you suggested (Google
Drive, Dropbox, etc.), we can go only with option B, but we would like
to do active sync (e.g. like your gmail works), and that requires a
server where your code runs.

Ian

I just started using OVUVIEW and this is the first question I had for it, since charting depends on both partners, I would like to have a way to sync with my boyfriend's phone as well instead of having to enter the same information twice on two separate phones. I would even be willing to pay for this feature.

Oh yes, please.
But Oi thing there really should be the possibility Tod usw everything offline except the device sync oft course.

And a yearly fee or the dropbox / Google possibility would be nice :-)

Do you have a date for such a release?

Oh and by the way will there be the possibility again to Export io older cycle images? Mine are empty now except the last two...

Thanks :-)

+1 for interest in the sync feature.

One-way sync can be done through the backup/restore. But the ability for us both to enter data would be amazing.

Bdw - CONGRATULATIONS for such an amazing app! I am a developer and was looking for an app like this, even thinking to develop one myself. When I found OvuView, the need was satisfied! It has everything my wife and me wanted, and more! Not to forget the good appearance.

Compliments to the team!

Waking up an old thread but this would be an amazing feature. Just the option built in typo manually synchronize using google drive or drop box. Information isn't entered that often but I'd like to check on the information after my wife enters it in the morning. Something like the app color notes does where you need to manually synchronize. Even if it's a read only mode.

Thank you!

Hello,

we have release an open beta where you can try how the sharing works.
Please do the following:

1. backup your data (menu -> backup / restore -> backup to SD card)
2. go to https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.sleekbit.ovuview and
become a tester
3. go to play store and update your OvuView to the new beta

Try data sharing and let us know what you think!
