I had no idea what to expect going in, so you can imagine my shock when I found out it was a movie about a pregnant woman who basically gets caught up in a spy world similar to that of Jason Bourne or Tom Clancy.

Most of the time, the picture is entertaining as a thriller that straddles the style of the late Tony Scott and the later 1990s and early 2000s generic thrillers. All of our main characters, but notably Balan, are compelling enough, and the mystery is at least passably intriguing. The cinematography, in particular, is really good. The score is actually pretty good.

I really enjoyed it! What a great Indian movie! It' so intense and full of mystery with a big twist at the end. The cinematography is beautiful and the score is also very good. Vydia Balan has a great performance!
It's very worth seeing!
I really want to continue to explore Indian cinema.

Think Michael Mann's 'Blackhat', if it were actually amazing, miraculously breezy (for a serious film this frenetically paced) and with an 8-month-pregnant Indian hacker instead of Chris Hemsworth. So kind of nothing like that movie, really. It also has a real South Korean/Argentinian conspiracy thriller vibe to it, in the sense of how the story is conducted and there's a valiant effort of building a rich, augmented metropolitan setting through excellent cinematography, editing and sound design. Ridiculously fulfilling, as well as surprising, ending, even if it's short of one scene. Now I have some Netflix digging to do, because that was great.

You don't get films like this in Bollywood often. Inventively edited, brilliantly acted, tautly suspenseful, and above all, pushes an important feminist message. Proves that Vidya Balan can hold a movie on her own without the often obligatory male hero.

A really engaging thriller with a great lead performance. Kinda surprised it hasn't gotten an American remake by now since it seems like the type of foreign film Hollywood would scoop up in a second. The highlight of the whole thing was my grandpa telling me that "these types of movies aren't good for you" whenever something violent happened.

"Kahaani" begins with an attack on the Kolkata metro, in which poison gas is used. So it is not only the question hanging in the air where Anrab alias Milan, the missing husband of the protagonist, is - but also how this attack is connected to the rest of the plot. Director Sujoy Ghosh thus convincingly heightens the tension. And even if the plot sometimes threatens to fray a bit and secondary characters are introduced who are then not as important as one actually thought, "Kahaani" still seems very stringent and efficiently constructed. Above all, however, it has a tremendously powerful heroine who almost single-handedly carries the film: Vidya Balan.

The movie is full of suspense, drama and thrilling elements and has been set in a mesmerizing backdrop of Durga Pooja in Kolkata. The combination itself could bind its viewers till the end and the jaw-dropping climax is (again) something that Bollywood thrillers often lack. Kahaani completely justifies its title and is so beautifully narrated to the viewers with its outstanding cast as the icing on the cake. Moreover, the perfect shots of the beautiful city of Kolkata with each of its details and scenes is an aspect worthy of appreciation. It is actually a kind of movie which must be seen twice to get a clearer picture of the minute events which weave this thrilling yet beautiful kahaani.
