Approximately 650,000 RACs, roughly 35% of sales, are dumped annually in African countries that consume more electricity than the common definition of inefficient (3.0 W/W) (CLASP 2020). Weak or the absence of energy performance standards, as well as the lack of proactive anti-environmental dumping policies in many African countries, are contributing to the entry of inefficient, high-global warming potential cooling products into African markets.
