I've seen various photos of restored "green diamond" engines, understandably painted green. I recently acquired, however, a slightly used, 213 cylinder head with a fair amount of original paint remaining. It's black. Could it be that the correct color for the green diamond engine is actually black?

Saw a blue diamond (BD264) engine for sale and wondered which series and years it was used. I know the green was in the KB 1&2(GRD214) trucks. What about the Red diamond? Was there any overlap with these motors in the different model trucks? How many colors did they make inthe diamond motors? Thank you for your responce,Crux.

Thanks Paul very helpful. The guy selling called his 264 a black diamond. said it came froma 58 travelall. I'm trying to get info straicht. any idea when they started with the blue, black and red diamond motors? What motor was used in the larger KB trucks? Thank you, Crux

A Black Diamond 264 has gobs of power and torque. The later ones had slanted valves in the head.. the way that this one likely is. They have 150 hp and 250 lb/ft torque. It was IH's best engine for cubic inch to power ratio and is the same engine that I put in my R-120.

The FAB was a valve in head with wet cylinder liners in 241 and 259" versions. This became the FAC in 1941 for the K-Line. Next was the BLD (Blue Diamond), a revised FAC with dry liners in 250 and 269". The BLD was revised to the BD (also Blue Diamond) series for the L-Line in 1949 with overhead valves and 250 and 269". These proved to be low in power so a sleeveless version designated the Black Diamond was introduced in 1952 with 282". A 308" version was added in 1954 to counter GM's 302" engine and it appears that the SD-220 and 240" engines became Black Diamonds for 1955. Built thru about 1969.

A dieselized version, the 6.9L version appeared in 1982, becoming the 7.3L in 1988, and the T444 in 1993. The 6.0L version was introduced in 2002?, the 6 cyl version was dropped by Ford in 2003, but continued by Navistar.

Ya, Howard did good - I thanked him with a PM. But back to the original question - a friend called me today to see if I remembered what was the correct engine color to the SD-220 he is repairing now for a L-120 he recently acquired . Any help on this

No - but small world. I put that wrecker body on that R-190 chassis in the years when we had the dealership in Brainerd. the wrecker had come from Willmar originally and was on a WC-22 White. A local beer dealer had that truck, and when their driver retired we bought the truck and dad hauled their beer after that. I think the engine went out when C&D had it and it laid at Deans junkyard for years. I was there recently and they had cleaned and crushed - all that remained was the boom and the winch. I 've got some pictures if I can find'em. Waaaaay to many pics and not enough organization!!! Where are you from,R-190, that you know of that truck andC&D diesel? I worked with both Carl And Don for several years.

Almost bought that wrecker at the auction But wanted their cargostar (an old Uslemans delivery truck) instead i did not buy that either got an S1754 with a 9 litre instead Probably a good choice Small world Carl is Ladd diesel by Nisswa ,Don is up by his father somewhere talk to him 2-3 times a year.
