Sail & Sign is Carnival's cashless on board credit program, which allows guests to charge onboard purchases and gratuities directly to a personal account for convenience. The Sail & Sign Card must be utilized for all money transactions on board as cash will not be an accepted form of payment. General information along with program details and funding can be found below.

Personalized Sail & Sign cards are provided to all guests (including minors) and are valid for use immediately upon boarding the ship.

Guest Services can provide guests with a balance update at any time throughout the cruise. In addition, guests can view their balance update at a Sail & Sign kiosk and Carnival's HUB app.

We accept the following forms of payment to open a Sail & Sign account: Credit Cards / Debit Cards - Cash / Traveler's Checks

Is cruise cash worth the trouble, have always just deposited cash to my S and S account. Just thinking about buying some Cruise cash so we are already set when we get on board. I just don't want to have to forfeit any unused portion that we don't spend.

I like having things set in place too, makes me feel good to know when I get on I have X amount sitting waiting to spend. So cruise cash works for me. My reason is more so because I also use discounted gift cards to buy it and don't like sitting on or holding the gift cards for long periods of time.

Take note of what a previous poster said about the ways you can get your remaining cash if there happens to be any left over at end. In all the years we have cruised using this method it has never been forfeited/lost at the end. Never...

You could still use those 8% discounted cards to just be deposited on your account. Buying cruise cash with them is just an unnecessary additional step. You of course can use those discounted cards for everything including paying for your entire cruise. I however use the 10% discounted cards for everything associated with our cruise that I obtain through Allstate.

While some think it unnecessary there are some benefits to cruise cash when using gift cards IMHO. If I am cruising and not using gift cards, just putting a credit card on file for my account, I likely would not do cruise cash. I always have gift cards though lol! But for gift cards I find there are many beneficial reasons.

4th: Finally, for major "planners" like me, there is a sense of satisfaction when I look at my booking and see all my items there lined up and waiting for me (Excursions, drink package, specialty dinning, cruise cash, etc.). It seems to be an easier way to budget as well, a little bit here, a little bit there.

You're correct about the 500 maximum with cruise cash. The one and only time I purchased it when they had their 20% off sale, 500 was the max per cabin per sailing, so I saved another 100 bucks on top of the 10% I saved with the gift cards.

I purchased $500.00 cruise cash to help meet a credit card signup bonus quickly, and will have around $575.00 worth of credit on my account, after already paying for my internet and drink package in advance.

However, I am planning to go to Cherry on Top and purchase 4 or 5 $100 CARNIVAL GIFT CARDS that I'll be able to use for a future cruise. So, cruise cash isn't risky unless you disembark without using the credit, but between gift cards and using your sail and sign card to deposit money to slot machines, cashing out after 1 or 2 plays, it is pretty easy to use.

Reading the descriptions for each it appears Cruise Cash Bar is for bar use only but Cruise Cash can be used for anything; presumably also for bar. I also found a post from nearly 10 years ago saying if you have Cruise Cash left over, since it is non-refundable, you can go to the casino and cash it out the night before your cruise is over. True? Anyone understand it all and can explain?

I am asking because I don't own a credit card. I do have one debit card to my checking and that is it. And yes, I use it for $3.00 purchases to get milk because I don't normally carry around cash. My debit card has always been my "go to" card. But has anyone not hooked up a CC to their sign & sail? Just paid cash? With all the craziness going on I have been checking my acct every other day since I DO use it almost daily. (Never shopped at Target, but who is to say the little food store down the street or walmart can't do the same thing). So, I have began checking it and I know there prolly won't be internet on the ship to check my balance if I used it on the ship while away. So...just wondered how it worked out.

I have ALWAYS set it up as cash. They can't take your cash at check in, at least not in Miami, but we went to guest services as soon as we boarded and put the cash down, it was available instantly. If you board a little later in the day, their kiosks should be up and running and you can put cash on your account there.

If cash is getting low, I figure out if I'm going to be buying anything else, if I plan on it, I add more. If I decide not to add more, but then find something I want to buy, I just stop at a kiosk, put the cash in, and then go buy whatever I need.

At the end of the cruise, you can either go to guest services before you go to bed and cash out your account, where they'll give you the remaining balance back, or they'll slip a check under your door the next morning.

We have always used a credit card. Last year we used cash simply to see what the difference would be like. I will say that it was easier using a credit card versus cash. Using the card eliminates the need to go to guest services to add more cash.

With regard to using a debit card, I would be reluctant unless you have a big balance on your account. Carnival will put a hold on your card and will update the hold as you use your sign and sail card. Those holds sometimes are not released when you disembark. I have read stories about accounts being overdrawn because of the holds. If I were in your situation, I would take as much cash as I plan on using and add it to your account. Just make sure to clear your account on the last night of your cruise or you will find a check for the balance attached to your folio.

We used cash on our dec 28 cruise and put it on my account at check in miami. Maybe the reason I was able to do this as others haven't seemed to is that when I did my online check-in, I stated I would set up my sail and sign with cash. When we checked in, the woman verified i wanted to do this, and I made my deposit. Didn't have to go to guest services to deposit.

Only used the kiosk one time during the cruise and had no problems, the cash showed up on the account instantly. Put the cash on your account with guest services as soon as you check in; you will receive a receipt noting the amount you added.

we always use a cash acct and had never had any issues. i find it great to make sure my bf doesnt have too many drinks :) but really it is easy. if you need to add more they will tell you are out of moolah

We don't love using our card for foreign travel, so we load usually load cash. We do it at the kiosk since very few people seem to use them and it takes no time at all. You get a receipt when you are done loading and it should reflect what you put in the machine. You can also withdraw the balance of your cash from the machine at almost any point.

Carnival has Suggestions for Downs but you can put down as much or as little as you want. Have opened a Cash Account with $300 and 2 of us sailing. Carnival will not turn any cash down. Just keep an eye on your balance in case you need to add more.

It will always be the best carnival in my eyes as carnival is ingrained into their culture. Think of it in the same way how Jamaica will always be the mecca and cutting edge of dancehall and reggae (no matter who wins the Grammy).

So with the above in mind I think that Jamaica IS reasonable in terms of what you physically get for your dollar on the road. But it just cannot, as a one day carnival, compete with a 2 day carnival in terms of the sheer length of the road experience of the masquerader. I also feel that It is unreasonable to expect the cost of Jamaica to be half a 2 day experience when the costumes are the current size, you get a good road experience, breakfast, lunch and in most bands, DINNER.

Some people prefer to give tips in cash a the end of the cruise so that they can be sure that it gets to the right person and so that they can easily alter the amount given based upon the quality of service.

When you head to shore, you should take some cash with you. Sure, you might get away with just using your credit or debit card, depending on where you are, but it is much easier to have a bit of cash on you.

You may also want to buy some souvenirs to remind you of where you have been. There will probably be shops where you can pay for things by card, but if you like to pick up little trinkets from market stalls then it is likely that the vendor will only accept cash.

Other things that you may want to pay for whilst on an excursion include meals, attractions and tipping, so I definitely recommend that you take some cash with you for times when you are off the ship.

Carnival Cruise Cash is the cash credit to your Sail & Sign account. You can add this credit to your onboard account up to two days before your cruise. This can then be used against any charge made on your account, including taxes and gratuities.
