Bell was convicted of manslaughter in relation to both killings in December 1968, in a trial held at Newcastle Assizes when she was 11 years old, and in which her actions were judged to have been committed under diminished responsibility.[6] She is Britain's youngest female killer[7][8] and was diagnosed with a psychopathic personality disorder prior to her trial.[9][10] Her accomplice in at least one of the killings, 13-year-old Norma Joyce Bell (no relation), was acquitted of all charges.[4]

As a baby, toddler, and young child, Mary frequently suffered injuries in household accidents while alone with her mother, which led her family to believe that either her mother was deliberately negligent, or intentionally attempting to harm or kill her daughter. On one occasion in about 1960, Betty dropped her daughter from a first-floor window; on another occasion, she plied her daughter with sleeping pills. She is also known to have once sold Mary to a mentally unstable woman who was unable to have children of her own,[17] resulting in her older sister, Catherine, having to travel alone across Newcastle to reclaim Mary from this individual and return the child to her mother's home on Whitehouse Road.[18]

That evening, both girls were interviewed about these incidents. Both girls denied any culpability for the air raid shelter incident, claiming they had simply discovered the boy, bleeding heavily from a head wound, after he had fallen. Further questioned about the attempted strangulation of the three young girls, Mary denied any knowledge of the incident. However, Norma admitted Mary had tried to "throttle" each of the girls, stating:

This is a list of youngest killers, i.e. the youngest people confirmed by reliable sources to have deliberately killed another human being. Individuals in this list are documented to be age 17 or younger.

Later on in 1982, Gary talked his wife at the time, Donna Young, into given birth in a hot tub at his "clinic". He held the baby, a little girl, underwater for an hour until she died. The coroner said she died from oxygen deprivation and would have lived had he not held her underwater.

In 2006, Sada allegedly murdered his six-year-old cousin, the daughter of his uncle. It is thought he also killed his own baby sister who was only eight months old. His last victim was even younger - a six-month old baby girl called Kushboo who lived in the neighbourhood, the report says.

The Daily Mirror report noted that other especially young killers across the world include James Fairweather from Essex, who was just 15 when he murdered two victims and was planning another before his arrest.

Disturbingly, some family members were aware of the atrocities that unfolded within the confines of their household, yet these acts were labeled as "family matters." Silence prevailed, allowing the horrors to persist. It was not until 2007 that the outside world would glimpse the true nature of Amarjeet's depravity. His alleged final victim, a six-month-old baby girl named Kushboo, disappeared without a trace from a local primary school.

Nadine Young described her granddaughter as family-oriented, a fireball and a big prankster. She laments how her granddaughter won't get to see her two living children or her unborn child grow up because police killed her. She said her granddaughter was due to give birth in November to a baby girl.

This undated photo issued by Cheshire Constabulary, shows nurse Lucy Letby. Letby, a former neonatal nurse who was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of seven babies in her care and trying to kill six others at a U.K. hospital will face a retrial on a charge of attempting to murder a newborn baby girl, prosecutors said Monday, Sept. 25, 2023. The murder of JonBenet has been a topic of interest in the United States for two decades. JonBenet was found lifeless in her home. On that day, her mother, Patsy Ramsey - who died in 2006 of ovarian cancer at the age of 49 - called 911 to report her daughter's disappearance and the discovery of a ransom note for $118,000 - the amount of a bounty the girl's father had recently received. The note stated that if the money was not paid, the child would be beheaded. But a few hours later, the young victim was found in the basement of the family home in the quiet town of Boulder, Colorado. Her wrists were bound, she had duct tape over her mouth.

This is FRESH AIR. I'm Terry Gross. Brooke Shields is the subject of a new documentary on Hulu called "Pretty Baby" that has already become part of the larger conversation about the sexualization of children and young women. Her career started as a baby in soap commercials and print ads. She went on to become an actress, famous in part for her beauty. One of her most notable and controversial roles was in the 1978 movie "Pretty Baby," in which, at the age of 12, she played a child prostitute. Brooke Shields talked about her life and career with our guest interviewer, Tonya Mosley, the host of the podcast Truth Be Told.

MOSLEY: But as the new documentary "Pretty Baby" explores, Shields' early career was defined by a sexuality that both she and the world are still trying to understand. In this two-part series now on Hulu, director Lana Wilson peels back the layers of Shields' story, examining the toxic culture and power structure that perpetuates misogyny and objectifies young girls. Brooke Shields has had a long career as a model, a Broadway, film and television actor. She's authored several books and is the host of the podcast "Now What?"

MOSLEY: That is really interesting, the two things you said there. One is you wanted to be liked. I think that's something that a lot of women and young girls can understand. You go along with things because you want to be liked.

MOSLEY: The funny thing is, watching the documentary and seeing these clips, one might think, oh, well, this is in the rearview mirror, the way that interviewers interview children. But then I recently saw a video where someone stitched together a series of interviews that reporters had done with Justin Bieber when he was a child. And some of the questions were so suggestive and inappropriate. And this was just a few years ago by comparison. Why do you think there is such a need to - maybe it's not sexualize but adultify (ph), if that's even a word, child stars? You dealt with it. We see this so much with young stars, especially if they're considered, like, you know, showboats or the object of desire for young girls or boys.

In an awe-inspiring incident that defies conventional notions about wild predators, a young killer whale recently demonstrated remarkable intelligence by seeking assistance from a group of humans to save its entangled mother.

The young whale took on the role of a guide, leading the rescue team to a larger killer whale trapped in a fishing net. He navigated the waters with purpose, as if fully aware that the humans possessed the means to save its entangled mother. This remarkable display of intelligence left the rescuers in awe, highlighting the complex cognitive abilities of these magnificent marine creatures.

The story starts in Carbondale, Illinois, where a 911 dispatcher by the name of Richie Minton would find himself on the other end of a 911 call."},"_schema":"pbj:tcd:canvas:block:text-block:1-0-0","etag":"e3ef1b8465de9dd5cf4f363941143c8d","aside":false,"text":"Was it a tragic accident or an act with intention?
