The problem is that I need to get a license from Gracenote in order to allow BonkEnc to access their service. Programs that are still in a testing phase of development have access to only 1.000 CDs on cddb.com, so it would not really make sense to get the license and implement the service in BonkEnc now.
Too bad, so they have abondoned it completely. By the way, can BonkEnc use Winamp input plugins? Then it would at last be possible to play mp3PRO files correctly with it. I think dBpoweramp even utilizes the free Thomson mp3RO player/encoder for ripping CDs at the default 64 kbps, but since I don't use that application, this could also be wrong.
The only 3rd-party plugins I use are AdPlug, Alpha-II SPC Player, and XMP. Adplug is the worst offender, certain file formats will cause it to crash instantly. And if you close Winamp while playing an adlib file, you won't be able open it again until you remove the Adplug plugin.
But even the default plugins seem to be buggy (on my system, at least). Opening the MIDI plugin preferences while playing a MIDI file will work once, but always crashes on the second try. And sometimes, Milkdrop will randomly crash every five minutes or so.
My currently preferred music player is Clementine, which can play Audio CD's, but fails at ripping them. It'd be nice if there was a ripping plugin for Clementine, since I would rather keep my current player.
(At the plugins settings you can change also the interface: replacing the "skinned" Winamp-like user interface with the "simpler" one, which in fact is more fully-featured to easily access tabs, files and folders, etc. But the following does not depend on that.)
