Hey guys,
I spent a couple of hours setting up library software on an old laptop. We now have a lean, mean, 15-year old library cataloguing machine. It contains two key pieces of software that can be installed on your computer, or on a thumb drive or flash card that you can boot on any computer.
Here's a quick overview of what it includes:
Tellico is our library cataloguing system. Here are some reasons why it's awesome:
-It's easy to use
-It finds titles on the internet using a number of protocols
-It can be used with a laser barcode scanner
-It can export data in a number of formats
-We can possibly even crunch the data onto a wiki
-It's easily available to download in the Ubuntu repository.
Dropbox is an online storage service and software. Here are some reasons why it's awesome:
-It costs nothing
-We can store up to 2 gigabytes of data
-The software is available on all operating systems
-It synchronises quietly in the background
More details and a video to show you how to use it are forthcoming. See you guys at the meeting!
