Hello,

It has been reported that people outside Red Hat and NVIDIA cannot freely join
the ovn-org slack workspace [1].

libovsdb is publicly announcing the slack channel as the way to get in touch
with the community [2] so I think it makes sense for it to be public.

Do you think we could open it up for anyone to join?

Thanks.

Yeah we should fix this. Probably Girish or Dan Williams needs to take some action here.

I honestly don't know how to let people auto-join without approval.

The current setting is that anyone who is already a member can invite anyone new, no matter what email they use.

Otherwise, only people from specific allowed domains can register automatically. That list is currently redhat.com+nvidia.com. We can add as many as we want there.

One typically has to set up an auto-inviter -- something like https://communityinviter.com/. I'm not sure the magic bits to twiddle for public slacks otherwise (maybe a pro feature?)

Thanks Casey, this looks great. Either this or a set of instructions to obtain
an invite would be appreciated.

Anyone at NVIDIA or Red Hat can invite anyone to the space; I think you
just send them an invite from Slack.

Alternatively, if they are from a company we can allowlist their
domain. I don't really want to allowlist @gmail.com or whatever though.
